Re: Cleaning service batmaid

There are two things about batmaid that are not obvious and you have to carefully read the terms and conditions to be aware of them.

Firstly you are the employer of the cleaner not batmaid, batmaid themselves just do all the paperwork for and pay the obligatory insurances.

Secondly batmaid do not insure the cleaners against breakages so if the cleaner breaks something it's the cleaners liability not batmaid, batmaid do not check if your cleaner has breakage insurance.

That's what they claim but that doesn't make them right. Some points say the direct opposite:
- there's no contact, let alone job contract, between the customer and the cleaner until the work actualy starts
- employee selection is done by batmaid alone, based on criteria and by personnel determined by batmaid alone
- the custumer has no say at all on the pay
- the order to clean x hours on one given day looks to me like an Auftrag in the sense of the Obligationenrecht
- the customer has no say on who provides UVG insurance

This may well end like Uber where the authorities say Uber is the employer but Uber disputes it.

I use Batmaid to clean my appartment and our cleaner broke our coffeepot so she contacted Batmaid with a photo and they refunded the replacement value.

We found they have been great - very thorough and a really easy service to use.

This is weird but interesting. I just got the usual newsletter from the Migros Le Shop saying their new partner is Batmaid. I hadn't heard if it. It is a cleaning service run on a virtual coin/credit system. I can't see how much the real cost is though. Has anyone heard of it?
We have unfortunately experienced it at great cost and loss of time and energy. We were sent a young girl who was far from professional. They're to be avoided. Being linked to LeShop should've warned us off. The only time we ordered food from the latter we got basmati rice boxes with creatures growing in them long before any expiry date. Never seen before or since. COOP reaped the benefit our mistrust of Migros in general.

They're doing a lot of promotion just lately. They were in Basel SBB the other eveneing giving out flyers and pan-scrubbers.

Cost seems to be 34 CHF/Hr for regular cleaning or 37 CHF for a one-off (plus provide your own cleaning material in both cases).
We had the expensive one-off service in Geneva. Never to be repeated. Unprofessional, inexperienced young woman sent who couldn't even get into the building for 10 minutes thinking the front door was locked! She obviously has no force in her hands as also displayed by the poor cleaning results.Pretended the reason was she didn't know the many everyday products we supplied. Money out the window, much wasted energy.

What has become obvious to us is that they do not seem to care whether their cleaners actually know how to clean properly.Ours certainly didn't. Money, time and nervous energy wasted.

Another thing about Batmaid is that they sent us a young woman with no great cleaning experience. Poor results. Complete waste.

I'm not 100% certain but I get the impression that VickieMedia might not be very happy with the service offered by Batmaid.

Re: Cleaning service batmaid

We used it for a while due to a neighbor recommending it - they have been using it for a few years at least. After a couple of different people came, we settled on one we really liked but she became very inconsistent in terms of availability and we lucked into another option altogether

They were more expensive than other options too

Re: Cleaning service batmaid

I have used them 3 times. First 2 times i was quite happy.

Most recent time, after buying 4 hours of cleaning, I really couldn't tell if they'd been or not when i came home from work. I think you need to be very specific on what you want them to do.

In our case the place was generally clean, I stupidly thought she would notice that and maybe find the bits which actually needed work, under things, behind things, above things, crevices.. Nope. I think just vacuumed the already clean floor and re-washed the already clean worktops etc.

Be specific, point to what you want done, then at least if it's not, you have something to complain about.

Re: Cleaning service batmaid

I'd recommend anyone interested to look for other alternatives.

I wanted to book 4h of cleaning every single week and had to cancel the service due to lack of reliability .

Basically I've got 3 no shows out of 7.

Steer clear of them.

Re: Cleaning service batmaid

Hello, does anyone have any recent reviews of Batmaid? I've seen a lot of advertising lately and wondering whether it's worth trying out to take away the hassle of sorting out the paperwork for a private cleaner? I'm quite particular about how I like things done so any reviews on how thorough the service is (and whether it's improved from the reviews above) would be welcome.

Re: Cleaning service batmaid

Hi Milkshake,

I only got to Zurich two months ago and after a very short search, I settled on Batmaid. They've been coming to our house for four weeks.

The good:
- Their website's user interface is pretty easy
- I don't have to understand and/or deal with any paperwork regarding my obligations as an employer which is one thing off my plate in this move
- The staff at the office are great and always looking for a solution and will recommend cleaners to fit your needs (in my case, I asked, if it was possible that they assign me a cleaner who spoke a language I could understand - I gave a few choices- and all the cleaners so far speak at least one these languages.) I found them very responsive and really helpful, not least because whenever something has been unclear they call back to make sure they understood exactly what I wanted. Cannot say enough nice things about them, I have not had a single exchange that has been less than impressive over the phone.
- I have had cause to call in a couple of times because the cleaner has done fewer hours than contracted and it was immediately adjusted

The not so good:
- There were a lot of teething problems, and three cancelations in a row at the time the cleaner was supposed to arrive, so no time to make alternative arrangements
- The first person that came, was a very last minute replacement and not very thorough, which they seemed to know was probably going to be the case.
- I now have their highest rated cleaner (according to them) who is a very nice man in his early thirties, but I find myself having to give guidance to make sure things I think are obvious don't get done (think dusting lamps, over picture frames, hoovering under furniture, etc.)

So, I would definitely recommend them, because they do make things very easy for you as an employer. The cleaning standards are not dissimilar to what I have experienced with other cleaners hired directly and/or via an agency in other countries: it takes some time to train the person to work to your standards so you have to invest the time.

Hope this helps and good luck.

Re: Cleaning service batmaid

Was using another cleaning service a few years ago (can't remember the name).

Went through the same rigmarole described in previous posts i.e. continuously changing people, having to show them the ropes etc. At the end of the day the service provided wasn't good because a) I had to be there to explain many times b) Had no idea who was coming into my apartment c) It was incredibly expensive.

So I poached one of the staff who I'd seen working a few times and had done great work. Asked if she'd also be interested in working outside of her hiring agency, which she jumped at because she was sick of all the messing around of her hiring agency.

Got and paid the necessary documentation for insurance etc, and it's been perfect since around 3-4 years. Hope it stays - would hate to loose her.

I tried to give further recommendations for her services when EFers were looking, but she was totally let down by EFers either not being there when she turned-up for an interview e.g. in Altstetten, or not willing to pay her wages (and believe me, she is far, far more affordable than services like BatMaid).

In all the years she's helped me with the household (she comes twice per month), she's never once cancelled due to being sick. We arrange our vacations, sometimes she'll let me know in advance if she needs to move an appointment to the next day due a doctor's appointment etc.

I've tried giving her a bonus at Christmas, but she doesn't accept it.

At the end of the day its all about working together.

It's a shame she's not in canton Bern! ;-) It's great when you find someone who does a really good job and is reliable :-)
