People outside of Zurich refer to a group of people from Zurich as a "Wunch"

I'm a Gummeli Schwyzer.

People from Zürich are called Zürchers while rolling the eyes. Having a Zürischnore is not a compliment.

"Genevois, de Dieuuuu"! Anyone on the other side of the Röstigrabe is called a "Bourbine" and I understand anyone our side of the "border" is referred to by the Swiss-Germans as "die Welschen" (The Welsh??)

In the canton of Bern, anyone who has a first name 'Ernst' automatically has a nickname of 'Aschi' (so I was told).

It has always amazed us that a man with the lovely name of Christian is called Chrigi, or in Wallis, Chrigu

Re: What are the nicknames of people in different cantons of Switzerland?

I've heard Bündners referred to as Alpaffen or Bergaffen, is that common?
Also, I'm not sure tif there is a specific nickname for them, but the Bernese are universally perceived to be slow and stupid .

Re: What are the nicknames of people in different cantons of Switzerland?

@Paddy, never heard those. One used is Stäibock-Tschingg. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tschingg

Sometimes Berner are called Giele (p) Giu (s.) (Bernese/Mattenenglisch for guy)

They usually call me Salope. But in a nice, friendly way. Only people that have known me a long time have that priviledge. I won't repeat what i call them back.
