Earning in British pounds but living in Switzerland

Hello,

We have lived in Switzerland in the canton of Vaud for 5 years now. My DH has bee made redundant, can't find another job here and is now working in London as a contractor.
I work part-time, but my salary does not even cover the rent.
Is someone else out there who earns their living in the UK, but lives in Switzerland?

I think it's a veiled advert for a Monday to Friday husband.

Re: Earning in British pounds but living in Switzerland

Presumably she wants to clarify the tax implications and feasibility of her remaining in Switzerland while DH (dear husband?), transferring large chunks of dosh over each month from the UK to cover her living expenses and the short-fall in the rent.

OP, please expand a little on your original question; we'll do our best to help but members will understandably get ever so slightly stroppy if every tiny but relevant fact has to be extracted piecemeal from you.

obviously, the exchange rate is very much against this idea (we only have income/pension from the uk and lost about 40% of income since we arrived here)...but if the salary is high in the UK, why not if it works for you.

Would you not consider going to UK to live with him as a family- your money would go much further. This would certainly be by preferred option in such a situation.

well yes- depends on salary too- London salaries can also be much higher than CH for some- and depends where in London- much cheaper to commute North or even East than South and worse, South West.

A house that would be 350 in say Leamington, and 250 in Luton, could easily be 1.2 mio in Surrey where I was last week - prices are indeed pure madness there at the mo.

I was just not long ago back in London for about 8 months and then Surrey for about the same, the commute is crazy. Even just a small distance across London can take forever. The rents went crazy. Some jobs pay better, some less, we may be doing the same with my ex as a contractor there if he looses his gig, which for his work contracts = good money but the rent for a similar apt was almost double (yes there are cheap areas and such but we're talking similar for similar)

I would consider, if we did not have children (11 and 13) that have been educated in the Swiss system since they were 6 and 8. My son would have to start GCSEs next year.

I did it in 2005 for four months - weekly commute Basel<->Birmingham. Then I got a contract back in CH.
