Hiya

For my OH's 40th I have decided to get him 40 smallish gifts instead of something big - everyday items from socks to chocolate and maybe some more interesting ones.

I was hoping for some advice from you Ef-ers.
What hobbies does he have? Getting a few of the presents based on his hobbies would sort out a few of the forty.

Otherwise it's difficult to help as we have no idea what your chap likes or dislikes.

Re: 40 Gifts for 40th Birthday

On my hubby´s 40th i asked him what he would like to have or do. he wanted to go to the north pole (as close as possible for his hobby, ham radio). So i let him go there for a week. Its always best to ask to avoid man drama.

You can take ideas of "the five senses box".

Re: 40 Gifts for 40th Birthday

OK. No more snark.

I don't know your OH, but surely he has at least one hobby or passion. Give him time in his man cave to play. The "gift" is your permission to let him be indulgent.

Other ideas that are small/relatively inexpensive:

-A nice tie or two
-Cufflinks - engraved
-Have his favorite pair of shoes resoled, re-laced and shined
-Gift cards (sound like he does his own research then hunts for game on his own. Let him)
-Beer (as others mentioned)
-Knife sharpener
-Personalized pint glass (with certified weights and measure mark)
-Books about his hobby/passion
-Books on how to .... (mix drinks, fly planes, grow plants, sail, race cars, catch fish, navigate by the stars, etc)
-Wall map
-Techie? ultra slim USB stick, LED stuff, extra cables, power chargers, connectors, etc.
-Outdoorsy? tons of camping, hiking and ski accessories to choose from: bear whistles, key chains that can kill a moose, fire starters, compass (old timey), water bottles, or camel back, etc.
-personalized drink coasters

Hope that helps.

As for my OH - he's one of those guys who it's a pain to shop for. He is a good Swiss and has his hobbies down to a science. He isn't one for lots of knickknacks (again, Swiss).

I did order the ballscratcher (Thanks, John!). Might as well have fun with this.

Re: 40 Gifts for 40th Birthday

For Christmas last year, my mum bought my dad a square metre or so of land in Scotland. He is now technically a Scottish Laird. It was the most original gift of the day... And I'm wondering what she'll do to top that this year.

For the OP, how about something handmade? I have made and given my male relatives letter openers, magnetic paperclip holders, key rings, personalised book marks, abstract paintings, fimo models of some mathematical calculation and a purse made out of a milk carton (with cash inside). All went down well.

And I regularly get them socks, ties and handkerchiefs. My brother likes clothing items because he hates clothes shopping... My dad likes to add to his collection (of ties).

I actually feel for you because I have the same problem. I usually have an idea about what other half might like to get as gifts but wouldn't even consider buying something for his hobbies unless I am 100% I heard him mentioning that particular object.
40 little gifts is a cute idea btw. I feel a little envious it didn't cross my mind.

An 'experience' would be a great add on - parapenting jump, or spa day, snowboarding lesson- day trip to somewhere nice, etc.

Ahh, 40- my baby's age.

My personal opinion, a ring --with something engraved perhaps-- would be nice.

There is ALWAYS room for another motorcycle!

That said, I'm out of room, but we have 7 motorcycles, and, now, three cars!
