Re: Lotto/Euro millions

View Post
I remember seeing a "study" years ago that concluded that the totally non-random lottery selections "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6" (or however many numbers you need to select) and similarly, counting down from the last number available, and the winning combination from the last draw, are the three worst possible combinations to choose for your Lotto entry. The reason isn't that they're less likely to win -- of course, all number combinations have statistically equal chances of winning -- but that many, many people choose those combinations. So if one of those combinations were to come up, there would be a large pool of winners divvying up the prize and the individual payouts could run into the low thousands for a multi-million jackpot!
Many people also choose their birthdays or those of their loved ones, therefore avoid numbers 1 to 31 to have a better chance of keeping it all for yourself. You might say it doesn't leave you much chance, but the odds are still the same.
