Swiss army knife : is it cheaper abroad ?

Should I buy it in Switzerland, of can I find the same knives at a better price elsewhere ? I was wondering about that because Switzerland seems to be more expensive for most products.

Yes, certainly in the case of Victorinox you can find them much cheaper in France or the UK.

Just like Swiss watches did I find them cheaper pretty much anywhere outside the country.

The best place to buy them is just after security at Zurich airport, just for the feeling.
(They're allowed in your handbag on the way out. Not on the way back in though!)

Re: Swiss army knife : is it cheaper abroad ?

I heard that the Swiss Army Knives made for the export market don't have the Cow Bell Adjustment Tool or the Cheese Holer.

Always ask the retailer if these are included.

I just had a look at least at the online prices and you are right: Prices seem to have dropped significantly. I bough a bunch of those knives a couple of years back as presents for the extended family... and they were around 20 CHF for the simplest models. I clearly remember how we flew through FRA and I was pretty annoyed that I could have gotten them there for 40% or so cheaper than my local Migros.

Looks like they are around 12 CHF now - which happens to finally match the EUR prices across the border.

Re: Swiss army knife : is it cheaper abroad ?

Landi keep them, and for very reasonable prices.

My niece visiting here bought one of the "complicated" large sort for her husband - it only cost Sfr18. She`d paid much more elsewhere for smaller ones.
