| | Zurich 8001 - Zurich's own sitcom
Goooooood Mooorning, to the best family on the interwebs. I know, I know...it's been a while since I spewed out a sign of life and all. Now, I happened to stumble upon this fantastic little gem. Basically, some very ingenious person came up with a sitcom based in Zurich..fair enough, why not, I mean if Beverly Hills and a plethora of other cliche places can have their sitcom, then it is only fair that Zurich gets their own sitcom as well.
Here are the pilot and some of the fantastic character introductions. Enjoy! |

I wonder, will Paris Hilton make a guest appearance? The vacuousness of wannabe celebrity, not even Switzerland is exempt, but by golly don't they sound like a bunch of boring twonks.

Is there anything special about PLZ 8001?
For example: in Beverly Hills 90210, that zip was up in the hills and highly desirable, with large mansions on quiet meandering drives, whereas the other BH zips of 90211 and 90212 were down in wanabee plebland, with rows of single storey block houses and loads of traffic noise from Santa Monica and Olympic Blvds.

A scene in a tram in Zurich with sitcom-laughing in the background is just really odd.

In regards to the actual sitcom however, I find it rather cringeworthy. If you'd employ someone with the sole task to create the worst possible sitcom, one couldn't remotely beat Zurich 8001. There is so much wrong with it, that it is almost amusing.
I applaud the creator of the sitcom for trying to start a homegrown series which is dedicated to expats but that doesn't consolidate the fact, that some not so futile details are quite wrong. For one, the "American" actor has a thick Swiss accent. The "Belgian" guy who in the sitcom supposedly hails from Antwerp is depicted as a francophone, Antwerp however is Flemish. The "Italian" actor's last name is Castillo, which is clearly a Spanish name....kudos for efforts but a little more research would have definitely given the series a bit more credibility IMO.
Edit: The inserted audience laughter seem to be off point at times and tend to highlight humor which most anglophones wouldn't necessarily find funny.

I gave up halfway through the second "character interview". The acting is appalling. I just have better things to do with my life that watch bad acting.
