I thought in Geneva we were South-Western Switzerland! If the BBC say it's the Jura, then it must be true!

Um what bit of

In the Joux Valley, in the south-west corner of Switzerland, the traditional craft of watchmaking is flourishing.

didn't you understand?

And since when has Geneva been in the Joux Valley?

"Located 30 miles (50 km) north of Geneva ..."

Re: Watchmaking in the Joux Valley

Martigny is in the south-west, Geneva and Joux are central-west.

Geneva is South West. On the map. I think!! But then geography was not my bestest subject!!

Anyway, Geneva is enjoying warm weather again today. And is chocablock full of Christmas shoppers.

What do you buy for a five month old girlchild who already has 40 pairs of shoes? I know, a name change - to Imelda!!

Re: Watchmaking in the Joux Valley

Nit picking are we? The Jura is one of the most confusing geographical term indeed. It is a French Department, A Swiss Canton (in the North West of CH) and a long mountain chain that clips 3 countries from near Geneva to Basel +... and of course, a Scottish island too.

Vallée de Joux is just above Geneva, and I'd say very much in the South West of CH- and indeed some of the best names in watch making- a very pretty place, easily accessible from Geneva via La Cure, Nyon via the Marchairurz pass, and Lausane via the Mollendruz pass (don't forget to stop in gorgeous medieval Romainmôtier).

Did you have a lie-in, Odile? It took you a long time to join this thread, especially designed with you in mind, I would say!

No need to be patronising. I look at the map of Switzerland and using the compass points, I would say Western Switzerland, Geneva being the South-Western tip. But even the Swiss don't agree with each other as what constitutes exactly Western Switzerland and South-Western. As a mere expat, I could be forgiven for being a little confused myself, couldn't I?

Re: Watchmaking in the Joux Valley

Geneva is north of the Alps, therefore it is north.

Martigny is at the south-western tip.

At least with Ticino, you know exactly where you stand!
