Dublin (Irish) weather vs Basel/Zurich weather

Hi all,
i've seen a few people who came from Ireland.

How would you describe the swiss weather? Specially over the winter.

Dublin is not too cold but it tends to be very windy, cloudy and rainy all the time. how about Basel/Zurich?

Do you regret moving frim Ireland?

I am not really into nightlife so pubs wont be a problem for me.

Re: Dublin (Irish) weather vs Basel/Zurich weather

The main difference is how dry it is in Switzerland compared to damp Ireland

When I arrive back in Ireland, it takes me a while to get use to it as I often feel cold in Eire - even at plus 10 degrees - and thats mostly down to how much moisture there is in the air. I much prefer the dryness of Switzerland.. however, having said that, this Winter in CH has been quite mild compared to previous Winters.

Regret moving from Ireland? No. Actually, I couldn't for the life of me move back, did try living back there for a spell.. love visiting both Ireland and Northern Ireland, but could not live there.

You might really love living in Switzerland.. try it and see.

There is no wind in Zurich.
It is really really dry and your skin will feel this.
For the past few months it is endlessly cloudy, just the occasional blue sky.
The fog is really thick, bad and pervasive. You have to go up high above 800m to clear it but as you would live in Zurich you just live under cloud and fog all the time. It is depressing as hell.

Summer in Zurich has way way more sun though, and weather systems change very slowly as it is so far away from the sea. (days/weeks instead of hours/days when on a coastal region).

Re: Dublin (Irish) weather vs Basel/Zurich weather

I'm living here since July. Last Summer was hot and it less rainy and windy.
I was home in Dublin in November- 8 degrees c in both but Ireland was damp. It felt so cold!!!
However in Zug the day long fog that occurs is hard!!

Re: Dublin (Irish) weather vs Basel/Zurich weather

You can compare them on an hourly basis, amazing what you can do with IT,

DUBLIN: http://www.meteocentrale.ch/de/europ...tails/N461865/

ZURICH: http://www.meteocentrale.ch/de/europ...ils/N-3518042/

BASEL: http://www.meteocentrale.ch/de/europa/schweiz/wetter-basel/details/N-3512954/

We miss not being near the sea, but the plus side is there is less wind and the weather is not as changeable.

Re: Dublin (Irish) weather vs Basel/Zurich weather

Last summer, I travelled from 35 degrees in Geneva to 18 in Edinburgh.

I was wearing two fleeces and socks!! My sister had a mini skirt on...!! But i did sleep better. The first night i was there i must have slept for 9 hours.

No comparison.

Im from Cork and living in Basel, to me it never seems to rain here. I was getting worried about waters levels at one stage toward the end of autumn last year cos it was so dry for so many weeks.

Drier. Obviously.
Quite a bit warmer too. Never really gets properly cold until late into the night.
