Never losing your childish ways
The donut thread got me thinking of the doughnuts we used has as children - pack of 4 from Sainsburys. We used to have them once back from the weekly shop - and on the caveat that we hadn't behaved like little $^%&s!!
The aim of eating the doughnut was to maximize your dough to jam ratio - which meant trying to work out where the jam was - you be convinced it was over by the injection point - go for a bite the other side and "NOOOOOOOO" a mouth full of jam!! And you're left with hardly any jam in the rest of it. The next week you'd have learned from your early jam excess and bite the injection side - but "Noooooooooo" it was a limited injected side. As an adult it is hard to replicate the joy for a perfectly consumed doughnut with final few mouthfuls being a jammy delight.
A similar approach was used in the consumption of cream filled biscuits - Custard or Bourbon. Here the aim was to bite as much as one layer of biscuit off (without twisting - AKA the Oreo Twist) so that consumption of the remaining biscuits has an improved cream to biscuit ratio.
Tragically, and really do mean tragically, these are both experiences that even after too many years of being a fully grown human adult I find hard to resist.
