Re: Swiss Post just tried to charge me 25 CHF in customs for something worth 60CHF

I sent a package to Vail, Colorado. It turns out there are places where US mail doesnít deliver. I had paid the expensive postage but the packet was returned. Who is responsible for the non-delivery and possible refund?

That's weird. What was the reason for non-delivery? I thought USPS would deliver to any legit address. Rain, snow, dark of night and all that.

So did I but it doesn't and I've got the stamp to prove it.

If you sent your package with Swiss Post then you made a contract with them. You paid them for a service which you didn't receive. So the refund should come from the Swiss Post. They can follow this up with USPS and find out what happened.

Re: Swiss Post just tried to charge me 25 CHF in customs for something worth 60CHF

Don't want to start a new thread, figured this kind of fits on here;

I want to order a piece of sports equipment from the US & I'm trying to figure out the import charges.

Price $169.95
Shipping $59.95

I reckon about 40 francs in total, but I'm not totally sure I've got that right. Is there a decent online calculator for this? I've only found duties.ch - and I don't think it's accurate as it tells me I'd have to pay on an item costing 50chf.

My experience is also mystifying. Two examples (of many)Ö

Ive bought a £50 item from ebay UK and had 18chf bill.
I recently bought £300 electronic item and no bill

I canít make any sense of amounts. I just pay and grumble 🧐

you pay duty on the cost of the item and shipping together

is the item available to be shipped from Amazon or someone similar? They usually factor in the duties

Yep I know shipping cost is taxed too.

No unfortunately not. The brand only sells from their own website in the US. I did find a Swiss shop that sells one of their products (not the one I want) & it was more expensive than ordering from the US.

Edit:

Thanks for making me look again on Amazon. When I looked yesterday, the company did have an Amazon store but not selling the product i wanted. I just looked now on my iPhone and Amazon US didn't have it, but Amazon UK did for £150 (200chf all in including taxes and delivery.) Weirdly I then looked on my MacBook, and same item same seller was £250 with delivery unavailable to Switzerland (very odd)!!!! Ordered quickly from phone - hope it works!!!
