The 22-minute train runs every hour if I am not mistaken. I think it's pretty doable to arrange your time to take this train. If not possible, then you have the 27-minute train too.
Yeah, still it does not mention the fact that the commute will be likely much longer.

Something that an outsider trying to select a location to live in, might not appreciate at first.

Which is the topic, isn't it?
Where to live Zurich or Zug?

I do find more accurate to be very specific about the reality rather than doing wide propaganda.

Re: Where to live Zurich or Zug?

We live in Zug, and work in Zurich. I'd recommend spending some time in both to get a feel. They're both great places to live, but different, as people have already said. Only you'll know what's right.

Re: Where to live Zurich or Zug?

Thank you all for the advice and tips. It's proving very difficult to get a spot in Zug. I have been offered a lovely place in kanzleistrasse district 3.
It's a new build and great value. I'm not sure what the area is like so I have to do my research. The last 2 weeks have been hectic trying to find somewhere. There is Limited availability about.
If anyone knows anything about kreis 3 area or kanzleistrasse please share with me.

Thank you Kelly

Not far from Langstrasse so finding a hooker or a coke dealer shouldn't be an issue!

The area is then not safe for a girl by herself. Good to know. I'll keep looking

Well what can you expect here. Have a look at the picture. Its a tax haven and the dirty rich take away all the land fronting the lake .

The view is fantastic but I'm asking about the specific area to live. Helpful comments please as I'm under pressure to find a location asap.

Re: Where to live Zurich or Zug?

Yes the view of the mountains are great. Kanzleistrasse is quiet long. The further you are from Langstrasse the better. What is the address? But the apartments can be ok. This area is changing rapidly and becoming more popular. Ther is even a Hiltl being built in Langstrasse Zürich has a housing shortage for middle class seekers and the owners monopolise this and jack up the prices

Sorry didn't mean to scare you off, the area is probably aright but around Langstrasse itself could be a bit full on.

Visit the place and have a look for yourself.

In Zurich, my recommendations, in no particular order, would be 8006, Seefeld(8008), Enge, Wollishofen and Alt-Wiedikon if you want to live centrally.

What's your budget by the way?

She will be working in Zug, I am not familiar with those areas but my guess is that they would add a good 15 minutes or so to the daily commute.

To the OP, I think if you should give yourself another month or so to try and find something, this is because summer months of July + August are not really regular moving months, with the next big moving date being the 1st of September. It will give you more choice but nothing is guaranteed. Have you thought about sharing for 6 months to a year? There are many reasonable sharing opportunities depending on whether you've gone past the "sharing phase" in your life or not.

Re: Where to live Zurich or Zug?

People will be giving notice this month in Zug
- many leases can be terminated only March, June, September
- and expats with children tend to move over the summer

It'll be a good time to find an apartment end of this month, start of July. We wanted a house (not apartment) and were told it would be close to impossible....in reality we had 7 houses to choose from when we moved here 3 years ago at this time of year

Re: Where to live Zurich or Zug?

Thank you for all the tips. Unfortunately, I have to find a permanent spot before mid July. My temporary living is finished by then. I'm between a small place in zug and the place in Kanzleistrasse Zurich. I spent the day walking about the area. It's a mix of different cultures. There seemed to be a good few young people about and a lot of families too. I spoke with a lady in the area and she said it is a save area. I'll research the area over the weekend and see what its like tomorrow evening to get a feel for the place at night. Enjoy your evening. Fingers crossed I get something sorted by next week

Re: Where to live Zurich or Zug?

Well I suggest you go to Langstrasse on a Friday or Saturday night . Many clubs there. Yes its a multi cultural area. There's not so much open prostitution like it was 10 years ago. The young party makers took over. As I said if you are a fair way removed from Langstrasse then it's not so bad.

And if you don't mind minimum 45 travel time to and from work then it's the place for you.

Re: Where to live Zurich or Zug?

Give us a clue what your requirements are:
- how many rooms
- budget per month
- do you need parking
- how long are you willing to commute

People might have ideas or know someone looking for a follow-on renter....

Would airbnb buy you a bit more time? https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/12929546?s=5yP5Xykq

What is your working day like?

If you work a 12 (or more) hour day, were it me I would live closer to the job and travel to ZH for fun on weekends.

If you work an 9-5 job, then the longer commute is neither here nor there, choose the flat and area you like better.

---

And of course, make sure you understand the tax difference between the two given your individual situation.

---

Were it me I'd go for ZG, if only because you are closer to mountain hiking. But then, I'm not the city sort to start with.

Re: Where to live Zurich or Zug?

12 hour day is primitive and more than 12 hours is against Swiss work laws. And I assume you mean an 8 hour day spread over 12 hours!

And the naked bathing beach is also in Zug so that's another plus point

'Management cadre' hours are not restricted.
