Such a nice day today, ...

...I think i'll vacuum/hoover the driveway!

Couldn't make it up if I tried. My neighbor is out there with his vacuum cleaner hooked up to a long extension cord, combing the asphalt for dust and tiny pebbles. Out of respect for the Mittagsruhezeit, he waited to turn the machine on until right as the church bells rang 1 o'clock...

Has anyone seen this before? Is this normal here, lol? It's not the first time i've seen him doing this - just wondering if anyone else has pensioner neighbors who pass the time with such enthralling hobbies.

Re: Such a nice day today, ...

I've seen neighbours vacuum their balcony. Impressed, I've since done it myself although now I splashed out on a broom I just use that.

Thanks for the reminder!

Re: Such a nice day today, ...

i just got back from cleaning the leaves on the plants in our garden as they were very dusty.

vacuum cleaning the asphalt is of course stupid. you should use a special outdoor vacuum cleaner, which is much more efficient and make the asphalt shine nicely.

edit: in case you don't have such a vacuum cleaner, you can achieve the same by using a toothbrush

Re: Such a nice day today, ...

Gonna have to confess that I do this at our mountain house, but, in my defense, I use a shop-vac. After all of the snow finally melts, there's is so much crap left on the deck and in between all of the cracks in the pavers, a broom just doesn't cut it.

I saw a guy hoovering a drain out in Basel. Impressive commitment to Swiss cleanliness I thought.

Well that makes sense..

Our driveway is already clean however, as far as I can tell, and there are no pavers/cracks.

Now that he's got the vacuum put away, i'm tempted to go ring his doorbell and tell him he missed a spot.

Go tell him it's not nice to leave the work half done...

Re: Such a nice day today, ...

My mom was a clean freak, to put it very politely. My dad used to say that he was living in the only household ""even in Switzerland" where the firewood in the garage got dusted once a week.

Re: Such a nice day today, ...

I admit that I used to vacuum out my garage once a year, and again just before handing my flat back.

The picture of the floor polisher makes me laugh because our landlord has our garage concrete floor washed and polished once a year. They use one of those machines. Not joking.
