Hahahah....One can be happy, fit and well dressed and in fact not follow fashion in all details. Why put all that in competition. Just a little bit of extra thinking. If crazy busy single parent can do it, anyone can.

A little more color doesn't have to be vulgar or tacky.

Re: What does Swiss fashion look like?

Fashion is BS subterfuge to project a lifestyle to others you are not really living. Work on refining the lifestyle first, then your style can gracefully excude without looking like you are trying too hard.

I think that is Swiss fashion in a nutshell.

Or lack there of. But otherwise I'd agree with you.

Palate, esthetics for other than the reason of "charm" is important. It influences our thinking. Life is too short to always be pragmatic and ordinary.

Well, yeah, you would definitely want to groom yourself. One's level of comfort shows through no matter what one wears. The worse thing is to slap on some expensive designer and still look ill at ease. It looks disastrous.

For me too....although, ironically, I wear a lot of "dusty" pink or blue. I guess it's better than grey and you just fit in the atmosphere somehow.

That looks really boring to me. That washed out pink colour doesn't really add anything IMO.

Re: What does Swiss fashion look like?

Of course, people have their preferences, I like feminine. She is charming. The color? Depends. Nothing I saw around today, it is all so toned down already and it is not even October.

I'd say "Scottish Salmon Pink"! Which is boring, I agree, except on a plate with a nice smoky Whisky on the side!

Re: What does Swiss fashion look like?

I like Missoni and I like colors, the pale ones as the rich or busy ones. I like opening the armoires of kilos of different fabrics in front of my art students and tell them to go crazy with it. It is a safe place, and after a brief moment of hesitation, they go crazy with it. Amazing. It is good to let the personality show, not only by what we do or say...young people know that better than other generations.

To me it doesn't. It's a perfectly good work outfit with a touch of color. Not boring, but appropriate.

But I indeed don't like insane color combinations (yes I feel I'd look like a parrot) and while I wear a lot of color, it's always in combination with at least one piece of black clothing. Of course I'm also Swiss, so I can't help it

Fashion is BS subterfuge to project a lifestyle to others you are not really living. Work on refining the lifestyle first, then your style can gracefully exude without looking like you are trying too hard.

I think that is Swiss fashion in a nutshell.
I think that's a bit simplistic. If you work in fashion or a job which requires you to at least look as though you are sort of up with the times, you can't chuck on any old tat and expect to be taken seriously.

Having said that, and I'm not someone remotely in the fashion industry, I'd feel uncomfortable meeting clients (or even senior management) if I didn't have the right kind of "office gear" on. You are giving a signal of respect if you have taken the trouble to think about what you are wearing and whether it's appropriate.

As for the Swiss - most of them I know take their valuable Swiss francs and have a clothes blow-out when they travel abroad, or order from UK sites. I think it's fairly common, too, as the lady I see at the tram stop every morning has been wearing an M&S jacket this past week since the weather chilled down.

As to winter colors:

Black, beige, brown, black, dark gray, black, navy, did I say black? Boring, in any case

What's the deal with purple lipstick? Flipping through Tinder it seems like about every other native girl sports it.. Weird thing is, it -never- looks even remotely good.
