Migros Cumulus or Coop Supercard? Who's vouchers are better?

Hi,
I have ordered Credit Cards from both Migros and Coop, and now I want to decide which one to use more for my spending.

As far as I understood, they beoth give the same cashback value per spending (1 point per 100 CHF). Now the difference is in where you can spend those "vouchers"?

Does anybody have preferences over whose vouchers are more diverse/can be spent in more places and on more items?

Thanks

Re: Migros Cumulus or Coop Supercard? Who's vouchers are better?

Both analyze your shopping habits and afaik send you the in-store newspaper/magazines if you have their card, but I would say that Migros probably are better since they essentially give you money to spend (you can use the vouchers in place of cash), while Coop AFAIK only gives you the opportunity to buy reduced items on special occasions, or sells special sets sometimes which you can (only?) get if you are a card holder.

AFAIK you can use the Coop card points to pay for non-food items only (as well as the offers I mentioned above), while Migros points can be used to pay for anything Migros related (food, electronics etc.)

I have neither card because spending CHF 500 or buying items which give you a multiple number of their price in points, even though I don't need those items, just to get a 5CHF voucher, always seemed like a waste to me. If you spend much money in Migros and Coop and frequently buy stuff "on points-offer", it might well be worth it for you.

The forum search contains quite a bit of info on the subject which can help you make a decision.

Not quite - for cumulus mastercard the "cash back" is one point per 100 CHF spent in migros but one point per 200 CHF spent elsewhere. However, you also get various bonuses and various discounts along with the "cash back". The cash back can be spent at Migros on anything. I don't know about COOP but I remember in the past that the cash back could only be spent on certain items, or there were some sort of restrictions (I don'thave that card).

Aldi and Lidl are cheaper. Coop is the most expensive of the four.

I prefer shopping at Migros and with the voucher I go for lunch in their Restaurant or pay the shopping.

Most people have both and just shop one more that the other (preference, product selection, offers, location etc.).

Rather than carrying 2 cards, Migros gives you a sticker that you can put on the Coop Supercard.

The other option (if you carry a phone with you) is to load Stocard (app for Iphone, Samsung etc.) and do away with carrying the cards. They then scan from your phone.

Re: Migros Cumulus or Coop Supercard? Who's vouchers are better?

I have both cards. Before my recent move, I shopped exclusively at Migros. I love their cash back program and the targeted coupons.

Now I shop mostly at Coop. The shopping itself is fine, but I do miss the mailings from Migros full of coupon-y goodness.

Coop "rewards" me periodically when the cashier sees a balance on my account and asks if I want to apply it to my purchase. This is "mystery money" to me, because I never see what my account balance (cash back) is until someone tells me. I prefer the little cash coupons from Migros.

Your till receipt will show you how many points you have accumulated on that amount and your total number of points. 1000 points is worth 10chf ( I think).

They have different things to spend points on every week in the supermarket ( the website or brochure tells you which ones) so if you happen to buy one of those and you have enough points the cashier will ask if you want to pay with points. You can buy non food items at coop city at any time using points.

Re: Migros Cumulus or Coop Supercard? Who's vouchers are better?

The Coop Supercard Plus effectively has a charge of CHF6 per year: that's a CHF0.50 charge per month for issuing an e-bill. We just cancelled ours because of that. The Migros credit card has no such charge.

The Migros card gives you the equivalent of 0.5% back (1 point per CHF2 spent outside Migros). The Coop card gives you the equivalent of 0.33% back (1 point per CHF3 spent outside Coop).

The Migros points can be spent almost like cash at nearly every Migros business. The Coop points are more difficult to spend.

The terms and conditions of the Migros credit card specifically state that data related to your credit card use stays with the credit card company and doesn't get transferred to Migros. The only data Migros get is when you shop in Migros and scan your Cumulus card.

From the current Migros Cumulus T&C (text bolded by me):

Interesting. Thanks.
Does the charge even apply if you use DirectDebit (LSV) for payment? No way to avoid it?

Re: Migros Cumulus or Coop Supercard? Who's vouchers are better?

An insidious question: What if I go to Migros, pay with my Coop Credit Card (get 0.33% cashback) and then also swipe my Carte Cumulus (and get 1% cashback). Does it work?

I think Yes. I use post finance credit card and get 0.5% cashback along with cumulus points.

Yes it works both ways if you can be bothered to do it.

Swipe your coop card to get points on shopping then pay with your Migros card in coop and swipe you cumulus card in Migros and pay with the coop card.
That way you maximise points.

That's the Cumulus terms and conditions, different from the Cumulus Mastercard terms and conditions. Migros don't get the data for the use you make of your credit card outside of Migros.

On second reading, it now says that the charge will be refunded the following month, because Coop will pay it for you. This seems to be new: I could imagine that they had quite some complaints when they introduced it.

Re: Migros Cumulus or Coop Supercard? Who's vouchers are better?

Personally, I prefer Migros because, for a foreigner like myself, their point system is much more straightforward - at least, that's what I've observed in living here for less than a year. Buy the things, scan the card, get coupons in the mail that are directly redeemable against your groceries, e.g., scan 5 5CHF coupons and you get 25CHF off the total bill. From Coop, we saved stickers and got a plush Monsters Inc. toy that we gave to our niece, but I haven't made much more progress than that.

For the record, I ended up using exclusively the Migros One, because the Coop Supercard does not allow you to pay with DirectDebit if you have a PostFinance account.. . Disappointing!

Thought you guys know better.

Double dipping!

Shopping at the half of CH belong to Migros: Show Cumulus and pay with Coop credit card.

At the other Coop half obviously the other way round

Double points.
