| | Re: What (Swiss) watch do you wear? | Quote: | | | | | I used to quite fancy getting myself a Tissot. And then one evening, walking along the inlet river beside Lake Geneva, I was admiring the reflection of the lights in the water from the neon building signs. It was a calm evening, so I was getting the mirror image of each sign perfectly. Suddenly TISSOT didn't seem so attractive.... | | | | |
I have a renewed appreciation for my run-of-the-mill Tissot.
I'd taken the watch off, put it in my pocket. And forgot to check my pocket when loading the washing machine.
60 degree long program wash. And my inexpensive Tissot is still running perfectly.

I'd love a Pepsi, Hulk, or a Daytona Rolex but getting one from an AD just seems to be a total joke at the moment. My understanding is that they have waiting lists but the only people who get phone calls are the ones that buy the non-SS models for a lot more and build up some sort of long term relationship with the AD. Spend 100k on watches so you can buy the one you actually want for 10k.
Of course this is all an artificial supply and demand created by Rolex for their SS models.

The watch is huuge and very thick. The bracelet makes it even heavier and its links are big and unsophisticated. I find the black one looks less conspicuously coarse and bling.

I rarely actually wear a watch (I do have a few, but not the most expensive ones) but every time we go back home and have to buy a birthday gift.....this is our choice. Usually Tissot, whatever has a reasonable price. I know, we lack imagination and have totally entertained the Swiss stereotypes. Swiss watches and chocolate.

Such a pity that Rolex have discontinued the 39mm. it was a real sweetspot. Have you had any issues with the Tudor? A friend has had his in twice due to a 'jumping' date, apparently a common issue.
I run a Rolex ceramic Sub and a Omega Speedmaster, which I have put on a light beige calf strap, which looks ace.
Funny story about the Sub: at the time there was a 12 month waiting list (Really! 18 months for a Daytona). I didn't really have the means at the time, but would use the time to save like crazy. One month later 'Your watch is ready' Eeeek!

I have the 39mm in white and in my view it is a beautifully understated watch (especially for a Rolex) and the perfect size for all occasions... 36mm is too small for casual wear and 41-42mm is too big for more formal wear. Moving to a 41mm is to me a step back in practicality and versatility for a watch like this and I guess the value of mine will rise a fair bit in years to come. It's imo a timeless classic. | Quote: | | | | | | | | | | Quote: | | | | | Have you had any issues with the Tudor? The titanium strap is insanely light and the matte brushed finish is such a perfect complement to the dial. It's my rugged Summer sports watch and pretty much bomb-proof so far. | Quote:

I've always been a bit scared of white dials, but must say that is a handsome watch!
I think for cool factor, however, nothing beats my wife's 1939 Rolex 'Bubbleback'!

Now that I have a Rolex, I would never pay over retail. (Except perhaps vintage!)

Just to be contrary and ignore the question, I often wear this.. but am still waiting for a Swiss watch snob to have a, misguided, pot shot https://timeandtidewatches.com/wp-co...-SBGN007-3.jpg

Anyway it's a very nice watch... Grand Seiko are highly regarded for quality ad craftsmanship and have been in the watchmaking game longer than some Swiss brands. | This user would like to thank Chuff for this useful post:

This is a very nice watch...it looks like Dali might have designed it. I think I might actually wear it. I so want it. https://www.galaxus.ch/en/s16/produc...3#gallery-open
My grandfather had an Atlantic watch. They still have old fashioned models.
