Not that long after I first arrived I saw an original, running Harwood at a Flea market in Cologne for 50Dm. We perused the rest of the market, but when I went back to the stall about an hour later the watch had sold, for 30.
I regret that to this day.

The real wrist watch tarts are those people who have one of those boxes in which they house all their watches so they perpetually turn to keep them wound up.
So, come on, who's got one (or more) of those? | The following 2 users would like to thank Tom1234 for this useful post:

| | Re: What (Swiss) watch do you wear?
A couple of years ago I looked at a lot of Swiss dive watches and in the end fell in love with one of the most humble, The Longines Hydroconquest. To me it stood out due to the large numerics on the face, and I find Longines such an elegantly understated (and underrated) brand.
As I understand it the Swatch Group, after acquiring them both, had a choice of making Longines or Omega their premium brand, and in the end they chose Omega. While I fully understand why they did that, it's a shame, as Longines is the oldest registered trademark of all the Swiss watch manufacturers, dating back to 1832. However I don't see too many around, so that is a bonus I guess. | Quote: | | | | | | | | | I quite fancy the Longines Heritage Diver 1967 too... though I wish it had a black bezel option. | Quote: | | | | | | | | | I must admit I am also wary of buying more expensive watches as I go back to the UK often on business, and I don't want to be the target of some mugger looking to make a quick bit of cash on my watch.

But I'll sooner pay CHF1k to a charity than for a thing that takes 1/10th of that to manufacture. |

Am currently wearing one which looks like it could be Swiss, but isn't. Still cost almost a stately CHF 300.- a few years ago, but it was "Water resistant" i.e. not "proof".
Found it again in my bathroom plumbing system (not the WC) during a renovation two years ago, after two years of already wondering where it was.
You can judge me as you like, but it was still in perfect working order and looked as good as new...

I switched to a smartwatch a couple of years ago and would never want to go back to a watch that just told the time, no matter how pretty it was.
I used to have a Mondaine SBB watch but I wore it while supervising swimming lessons and learnt all too late what happens when chlorine meets stainless steel. | This user would like to thank for this useful post:

I used to have a Mondaine SBB watch but I wore it while supervising swimming lessons and learnt all too late what happens when chlorine meets stainless steel. | | | | | I really can't be doing with a smart watch - I already have enough devices that rudely bleep at me whenever it, or somebody unworthy, want's my attention. I really don't need another source of impolite disturbance.
I do, however, wear a watch, but I've been a long time fan of Japanese brands such as Seiko, or Citizen. Not expensive, quite nicely designed, and IME totally reliable.
While I understand the fascination with good quality Swiss watches, I'm afraid it's not for me. I'd rather spend a few grand on what is actually useful for me in a multitude of ways, rather than on a single function device. Yes I do understand that a good Swiss watch is an investment, but I've never been particularly investment minded.

I rarely wear a watch and typically only do so when I am travelling a lot and need to know the time regularly for trains/planes etc. Or if I will be stuck out of civilisation and will not have regular access to power/phone.
For this, I use a Casio watch.
