Not a huge difference? I don't know what you paid for your watch, but playing with a retail price of £3,000, with a refund of the full 20% VAT you would get £500 back. With Global Blue, you would get £405 back. I'd rather the extra £95 were in my pocket, rather than in Global Blue's.
Self-explanatory logic as always 22_yards, but it's not enough money for me to get into a tizzy about when I didn't know any better at the time and when it is now too late to be helped. Like I said, it's not a "huge" difference.

Re: What (Swiss) watch do you wear?

The thing with Global Blue is that it's very easy sometimes, especially if the seller is properly set up.

Yesterday I bought something from Chamonix, they swiped my credit card, and I can drop off the completed forms at the box in Zurich airport when I pick up a friend next week.

If I were to do the VAT refund in a different way, I'd have to get a paper, make sure that the border crossing is working the time I'm travelling through, send the papers back, etc.

I understand it's expensive, but it's really convenient.

Of course, when you're buying a £50 Japanese watch, it's really not worth the fuss.

Just get it insured. Costs 1/1000th of the value of the watch per annum with a 10% excess and don't worry about it. Also covers it for other eventualities.
How does one go about organising this? Is this part of the Household content insurance or something special? Thanks.

It's clearly a matter of opinion, and if that is yours then great, you don't really need to try and convince me otherwise.

£50 watch, the VAT is £8.33. Global Blue would refund £3.25. In this instance, I personally wouldn't be bothered about recouping the extra five quid, or indeed any of the VAT if I had to do much more than sign my name, but if you hold a varying opinion, be my guest!

I have the usual home contents/personal liability insurance and then additionally the valuables insurance that I mentioned. All the policies are with AXA Winterthur

Hmm I need to re-check my policy to see what is covered, as it does make sense to have that or similar.

I've worn a Rolex Daytona in far more dodgy places than you are likely to go on business in the U.K.
To be fair is a Rolex the right watch to wear in dodgy places. Prime example of what even my mum in her 70s would call "Zuhaelteruhr"... a clear indicator for a pimp.

Back on topic: Wearing a Piaget Polo 45 flyback chrono in titanium with rubber strap.

Re: What (Swiss) watch do you wear?

Swiss watches are not all - Swiss. How about Greubel Forsey (UK) from La Chaux-de-Fonds, or Voutinlainen, Finnish from Môtiers (NE), or even Parmigiani, Italian from Fleurier (NE).
