| | What (Swiss) watch do you wear?
I recently read an article on the Daily Drivel about watch renting... got me thinking about what I wear daily, and then I wondered about EFers...
so.. what gives you the time?
I, for one, am wearing a Baume & Mercier - Hampton model
(and have not been upgraded on a flight in a long while )

A Suter Automatic gold plated, stainless steel
Priceless 50+year old, heirloom from my beloved grandpa, of a manufacturer in Grenchen (which doesn't exist anymore)

Despite having spent a fair bit of time collecting and repairing watches I almost never wear one. When I do it is usually a Poljot automatic from the 1950s which I just happen to like more than the others.

I so wish I still had the Favre-Leuba my dad made me when I was young - but a ********** pretending to want to buy our Mini stole it from our house in the Midlands. I would recognize it anywhere in the world ...and the brand does not exist anymore (Jaeger Lecoultre now). If I could afford it I'd buy one of the great local names which are less famous, like a Nardin. I wear a £10 watch bought on the market in Leicester |

What an absolute bullshit article. It's a marketing piece for Eleven James.
From someone who loves watches, the idea that the average hotel receptionist/check in staff etc a) give a damn about watches b) recognise something that isn't a gold Rolex c) can distinguish whether it is real or not d) will treat you different because of it is laughable.
Today I'm wearing a Jaeger Le Coultre Master Geographique. Don't seem to be able to upload a photo | The following 4 users would like to thank eyebeebe for this useful post: | |

1. Car Dealers
2. Other watch collectors

| | | | | Indeed, | Quote: | | | | Indeed, one billionaire he came across had brought a watch for £348,054 ($450,000) because of its ability to tell the time in four different time zones at once. | | | | | Just how does one become a billionaire without knowing how to add and subtract whole and possibly half hours from the indicated time?

I have a couple of Swatches.
But i wear a 10 quid watch my mother bought me three years ago, at a market in Edinburgh. I haven't checked if it is waterproof.
Still works. Maybe i shall take if for a bath this evening? Nah.
My sister, who is now 62. Got a Timex watch for her 21st. That still works.
The Omega i got for mine - hasn't worked for 20 years. Still looks nice. Perhaps the crocodile strap should be binned...

I have a friend who collects wrist watches avidly - he knows the history of various brands and the technical details of mechanisms etc etc. A real watch guru. We were at dinner one night, and I asked his opinion of a new watch - I could see an advertisement for it reflected in the mirror on the restaurant wall. TOSSIT
He couldn't stop laughing for the next hour and every time I see this brand on anyone's wrist, I cannot help but snigger now as well.
