On line shopping in English - now on Amazon.de

Hello,

I share with you what I discovered a few weeks ago, amazon.de has a language button where you can select english - switching the site language.

This is a great for me as makes it much easier to shop at EU prices and get often free shipping to just over the border in germany (pack service place)

Hope you find it useful (at least it is fun to window shop )

Pack service simply does not work with Amazon! I use Hermes pick up service and collect in Konstanz. Its the only one that works. But not always. They send alot by DHL pick up but you have to be German to use this.

Is it total impossible to have Amazon.de to ship to CH? I undersstand i will get taxed if the order is above approx 50 CHF.

Re: On line shopping in English - now on Amazon.de

Of course one can have it sent to your private address. But not always. In this case I try Hermes de and if that does not work then one is out of luck. It pays to have a german friend with a german address! The price that Amazon gives is what you pay.Plus it has to do with EU countries.

Some stuff can be shipped some other cannot be shipped. There is no real logic in this, sometimes Acme Super Thingy in Blue can be shipped while Acme Super Thingy in Red can not be shipped.

If the order is made with Amazon proper, and not with an Amazon Market Place dealer, they will add Swiss VAT on any order where VAT is due plus a small charge which is way, way less than what the Swiss Post normally will charge you for the same pleasure. So yes you will get taxed, but not overcharged

Yes you can ship some goods to Switzerland, but since it is outside the EU there is generally a high shipping cost involved, and then the whole complicated business of VAT...

I always seemed to get a VAT bills what ever the value of the items, plus a handling charge for good measure from DHL on occasion. So check carefully before ordering.

By pack place, I mean ATP Paket in Jestetten, I have a fully functioning address from them for a reasonable cost per pack. I have ordered things as big as compressor pumps, baby seats, wine glasses... works well for me (as I don't know any of those words in german )

Amazon.de shipping charges to Switzerland are very reasonable, some times even zero. Just checked with a Roomba. Original German Price €634.95, Price to pay ex. German VAT € 533.57, Shipping to Switzerland € 0, Swiss Tax and Import charges €42.69

Total just €576.26 (Actual tax may change due to currency fluctuations. If it is lower Amazon.de will automatically reimburse you)

Never had a problem. All stuff that Amazon.de (actually Amazon EU S.a.r.L.) is not "able" or willing to send to Switzerland is shipped to a Paketshop‎ where I can collect it. Only had a Problem once with an Amazon Market Place Dealer which left out the street in the Address. It finally turned up in a random gas station in Waldshut.

Not the one closest to the border, maybe not the cheapest, but Guy is friendly and offers reliable service which serves all my needs.

Re: On line shopping in English - now on Amazon.de

Well I set up ATP and it seems no problem to send here. They say i should give the address as shown in their email to me but I see your address is different. Does it make a difference

Here is the address they gave me:

ATP xxxxxxxx
c/o John Smith
Schaffhauser Str. 13
79798 Jestetten
Deutschland

Should my name come first?

Strange way. Do you live at Schaffhauser Str. 13 and receive all the mail for ATP xxxxxxxx

Correct is either

ATP xxxxxxxx
z.Hd. John Smith
Schaffhauser Str. 13
79798 Jestetten
Deutschland

or

John Smith
c/o ATP xxxxxxxx
Schaffhauser Str. 13
79798 Jestetten
Deutschland

PS: Most important is your name, the customer no., and the company name ATP such that the delivery person finds the destination.

I put my name first as on my print screen from amazon, and it works, the xxxxx part is my date of birth which ATP I guess can use in case there were two of me with same name, I have it as part of the address in amazon.

I can only say I have had only good experiences with them, with stuff from google and amazon - but it is 5 euro a pack (pretty much from mouse size to elephant)

Re: On line shopping in English - now on Amazon.de

It's not just amazon.de, all the European Amazons will ship some stuff to CH. It seems completely random what will be sent, though. If you want something and it says can't deliver to CH then try to search for the same thing on one of the other versions like UK, Italy, France, etc. and maybe you can get lucky
