Fresh hot fish and chips in the Zurich area - any ideas?

I don't go to Zurich very often - it's a long way away and full of tossers - but on the rare occasions I do find myself in the Great Metropolis, I invariably crave a delicious hot portion of fish and chips.

Is there anybody out there who might provide such a service, preferably out of a van for that genuine "four o' clock in the morning on market day" chippy feeling?

I thought I'd once seen a thread by such a person, but I must have imagined it as I can't seem to find it anywhere.

If they sell saveloys, then that would even better. I've been promising to introduce my wife to the delights of the steamy English sausage for a very long time.

Think that it may have been hidden in the last pages of this (not too rewarding though):

Fish and Chips in Basel. At last.

Re: Fresh hot fish and chips in the Zurich area - any ideas?

Ohh yes, I remember that thread well...

It is however a bit dated, and some shops have come and gone since then.

Being a Fush & Chups connoisseur from way back, I unfortunately consider the best place Paddy's. Both the Oliver Twist and Kennedys aren't quite up there. And none ever have enough chups.

Nordsee at the Haubtbahnhof for the desperate...

But didn't Grumpy once mention a place close to the Viadukt?

I know it's not fish, but heard on the grapevine this place is pretty good.

Funny you should say that. I have a strange hankering for fish and chips with guacamole.
Shame there isn't a Mr Chippy in Zurich.

Why didn't the mod just move the thread to commercial rather than delete it?

Would that have really have been so difficult?

Depends if the OP had wanted to pay for the advertising doesn't it. If so, then it can go into Commercial section. If not, then again not allowed as far as I know.

Why are we speaking of wieners in a fish thread?

I like Nordsee. But inlanders don't know any better I guess.

There were only two options for fish&chips in ZH i.e. the one offered few hours ago on the EF and Nordsee. Since the former one has been effectively eliminated from the EF offers by deleting ( ), then I can only happily recommend the latter one.

Re: Fresh hot fish and chips in the Zurich area - any ideas?

After mourning the loss of Tramways in Basel, which was a weird combination of fantastic fish&chips and retarded management, I decided to try and make it at home for the first time ever a few days ago. In fact, first time I've ever deep fried anything!

Armed with this (delivered for free to Switzerland, with the German 19% VAT removed):
https://www.amazon.de/Moulinex-Fritt.../dp/B006TF4F88

Chips double fried based on:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/th...youhavee_93121

And in between the two fries, cod cooked in a simple batter of flour, baking powder, salt and a tin of Heineken. Would have been better with some English bitter, but I used what I had in the fridge. Fantastic! I'm not afraid of Winter any more.

But yeah, there's a new chippy van opening in Zurich at some point. Hopefully someone will go and review it.

Thanks to this thread, I'm hankering after deep fried garlic mushrooms in batter..

Not all UK fish & chips shops do them either - maybe the new Zurich Chip Van will have 'em.

Based on the responses here I hope the poor guy can live up to the hype or he might get thrown in the fryer with the chips.

Battered sausage yes. Goulash ... not in a chippy! Though the guy that owns our local chippy does a good line in curries and pulled pork. And he makes a mean fishcake...
