Re: A reminder!! Geneva Meetup

Asked OH, it would make our return here up in t'mountains too late. Another time when it is during the day will be better tohave fun, and finally meet the legends that are Patsy and Zappa and McTav of course. OH could bring his accordion and accompany him for a yoddle. But come and visit if you fancy the mountains.

We meet in the Duck or Grouse pub behind the Karpinski hotel, five minutes walk from the station, so no excuse for not coming. But do hang onto your wallet and mind out for cars that frequently crush inexperienced pedestrians on Geneva's mean streets. Look forward to seeing you there!

Will there be lots of 'special ladies' for him?

And I do not mean Patsy, Gata or Anjela

Glad we didn't stay- driving back in thick fog until we got back to civilisation would have been dreadful. Next time, hopefully. Santé et Joyeux Noël x

My sympathies. I used to spend a day every month the same way.

Re: A reminder!! Geneva Meetup

Alrighty - a big thanks to Patsy for organizing! To Anjela and Frank for trucking themselves to GE, it was worth it, we both had a great time..Sweet place, Patsy, too.

Everybody else - we wish you were there. Everybody - have exciting, warm and charitable holidays! So glad Xmas is still in, in Europe, I am a big fan.

And I know I should have worn the weird hat, but the cafe was too warm, hihihih.

Even the accents were somewhat comprehensible, thanks, guys.

Anjela and Frank - hope you got home safe and well. I will green blob everyone for good xmas spirit, despite the fact nobody played chess with me

(Was looking for an appropriate xmas image, this will do..though it is a little late)

Re: A reminder!! Geneva Meetup

Well, we had fun and a lovely evening of chat.
It was great to see fellow EFers again after too long an absence on my part and hopefully once OH finally moves back home in a few months time I'll be more mobile and we can meet up more often.

Infinitely grateful to FZ going miles out of his way and driving me home; hubby finally got back at 1:30!!!!

Hope everyone has a peaceful Solstice and safe journeys to wherever they're passing the holidays.

See you all next year!!!!

Re: A reminder!! Geneva Meetup

Yes indeed, t'was a great evening. An enormous range of topics were discussed, including singing in the Albert Hall (kudos Musicchick!), sending illegal substances by post (no comment) and knitting with giant needles (wtf)... Carouge was a good choice, so quaint and quiet. Tram stops outside, so no excuse for not turning up Geneva folk.

Since we were moaning about how hard it is to get said Genevans to participate, I thought I'd look back through EF social events to see how other towns do. It turns out that the supposedly sociable Zurichois EF folk don't organize social events ! At least, not since August.

Re: A reminder!! Geneva Meetup

Ah all these years I was working in Geneva and the EF crowd only ever existed online. Would have loved to be there but moved away this summer after 8 years. Especially to meet Frank Zappa, a fellow frontalier :-)

Still surprising though how 'niche' the EF Geneva group seems to be. English forum proudly announces 100.000 members on its website but it seems like there's one or two zero's too many, at least if we count who is actually using the forum. I have always been a big EF fan though.

What a kind message but do not despair, through the grapevine I've heard that one of the most prolific members was unfortunately a no-show; hence, you didn't miss all too much.

Re: A reminder!! Geneva Meetup

That's always the case with forums. People become members then drift away, but their membership doesn't end.

Another forum I belong to boasts over half a million members. But if you look at the active members it gives only 172. Of those I expect there's not more than a dozen or so of us who contribute regularly to the site.
