I was basing this on two things:

1. That the size of the cash is risky and prone to additional physical risks
2. Its just as easy to assure physical and bank transfers and I cant foresee any duress I could be put under if the transfer has not occurred.

But I may well be missing something!!

Cheers

The internet is full of scam stories/examples regarding car sales.

Thanks sigh!

The communications from the buyer certainly are suspicious (asking for my whatsapp contact and wanting to get to know me better, he already has my telephone) but has provided me a German ID card which looks ok, has agreed to the bank clearance, plus is paying for the exporter.

His personals are suspect, given hes at a Russian address, German national, buying a swiss car; but on the counter side, the car is from Germany and they are 10-15% higher in price in DE, so its a straightforward arbitrage play to resell in DE with the purchase.

Im not sure how I can de risk the process further!

I understand that the buyer is using an export company.

Do they have all the paperwork in order? Its not free of charge, whos handeling the extra costs?

More info here

https://www.ezv.admin.ch/ezv/en/home...itzerland.html

Also there is no need for him to get to know you better. Do not provide more information than what is required.

Honestly I would be wary about this deal, it does smell like a scam.

German VAT needs to be paid on the Swiss car when imported Germany so that will add 19% to the invoice price.

Just using an opportunity here. If the car was originally bought in EU, then imported to CH as part of household items. Then after some years someone in EU buying it. Would they be liable for VAT?

Then it's tax free.

Thanks all for your help on this issue. It turns out it was a scam and after thinking it could be somehow a money grabbing exercise, it looked to be a personal information harvesting exercise - ID, bank, etc. In the process they provided me with what im guessing is someone elses ID card who also may have been duped.

I challenged the fake seller to tell me about the company they would use to pick up the car with, then the story fell apart quickly.

Regards
James
