Best weather app?

Can anyone recommend a good weather app specifically for Swiss weather? I've used a couple of generic ones but they don't seem to do a great job with temperature predictions.

Re: Best weather app?

A rock hanging from a string outside.

If the rock is wet, it's raining.
If the rock is swinging, the wind is blowing.
If the rock casts a shadow, the sun is shining.
If the rock does not cast a shadow and is not wet, the sky is cloudy.
If the rock is not visible, it is foggy.
If the rock is white, it is snowing.
If the rock is coated with ice, there is a frost.
If the ice is thick, it's a heavy frost.
If the rock is bouncing, there is an earthquake.
If the rock is under water, there is a flood.
If the rock is warm, it is sunny.
If the rock is missing, there was a tornado.
If the rock is wet and swinging violently, there is a hurricane.
If the rock has white splats on it, watch out for birds.

This works for real, but where I live on the Isle of Wight we use a piece of seaweed.

Yes. The one that is the most reliable and requires not much effort is simply to go outside and look for yourself

Not much use for forecasting it though, is it? Look out of the window at 8 before you leave for work and it's beautiful and calm, then it's pissing down and blowing up a storm by 3pm.

OP, MeteoSwiss is pretty good plus there's a rain radar with a 4h or 44h hour tracking so you know whether to take an umbrella out with you.

You have to relearn what perception abilites you have lost through such apps.

A good weather App is not going to help you very much then anyway. It will tell you that the weather is good in the morning, which you already know, and will bomb out in the afternoon when the weather turns bad.

Thanks for all the serious suggestions.

But to those telling me I should just "look out the window", come on, don't be asanine. I need a reliable idea of the temperature and precipitation forecast for cycling and walking, which is what I imagine a lot of people use these apps for in Switzerland. Often I'll be cycling 50-100km from home, and maybe 500-1000m higher, over the course of 2-3 hours.

I'd love to know how you develop skills of perception reliable enough for that...

Re: Best weather app?

RainToday is useful for precipitation forecasts - It will begin to rain at where you are in x minutes.

Re: Best weather app?

Actually I find MeteoSwiss very accurate with respect to forecast.

I often use the 24h (now 48h) animation forecast to plan mountain trips and avoid the rain spots and I've not had any major surprises with it. OK, sometimes the forecast does change during the day but it's marginal - if you check it regularly and adapt your trip it's working very well I find. I don't think any other app is as accurate or gets updated as often
