Digitec not like it was

Wanted to buy this Lamp-Philips LivingColors Bloom. At Digitec it was 122 CHF. And I found it on Brack for 68 CHF. Crazy. Since it was taken over by Migros this company has gone down and down.Greedy Migros. I ended up getting it from a seller on Ricardo for 59 CHF. New and with garantee etc etc!

Re: Digitec not like it was

Couldn't agree more. Before Migros had it's greedy fingers in there they had very often (about 9 out of 10 times IME) the best prices in Switzerland. Not anymore.

Re: Digitec not like it was

Even before the takeover, it was worth taking a look at toppreise.ch before buying anything. I'd estimate about 1/3 of the time they were cheapest. But what they do have, at least for the stuff I buy, is ready availability.

Re: Digitec not like it was

Certainly they have more competition now as 10 years ago. But that should be good for keeping the prices low. Seems to work the opposite for Digitec and Galaxus.

Another example is Farfalla. Its a Swiss company. This product is 28 CHF in Germany ( Amazon ) and here in their shop they want 44 CHF. http://www.farfalla.ch/chde/biokosme...alm-100ml.html

Re: Digitec not like it was

So why don't you just order from Germany? Vote with your money to push the greedy and/or inefficient swiss retailers into oblivion. At that price you'll even get it VAT-free, that'd probable compensate the extra shipping costs. They also have far better consumer protection laws.

Yup! Ain't what it used to be. But I was never really impressed with their after sales service. Where as Migros is decent with repairs and returns and these days even competitive at times with the price.

Re: Digitec not like it was

Even Media Markt has this lamp for 89 CHF. I think Migros has no interest in this " houshold" segment of the Market.

Re: Digitec not like it was

I was researching buying a gtx 1080 today and indeed digitec is quite expensive: more expensive than microspot actually, which used to be the other way around. The cheapest is pcp.ch, but not quite sure how wise buying from them would be...

Re: Digitec not like it was

It's an ok and legit shop. Customer-friendly AGBs - e.g. 14 days returns.

Also, Nvidia is about to release 1080 Ti soon, so if you wait a bit, price should fall even further and you can have a bargain; or you'd be able to buy a better card, at non-bargain prices of course.

pcp is good. Have bought from them a few times. Always good. Delivery charges don't forget. Pricey videocard!

Re: Digitec not like it was

Digitec is a victim of it's own success. The idea was to be as lean as possible to keep the prices low. To do so you don't invest in fancy shops, have a pcik up counter in some corner of the Technopark where a lot of kids need cheap laptops and you only take orders online. You also keep the stock low.

By now is Digitex/Galaxus trying hard and failing even harder to become Switzerlands Amazon...
- billboard advertisement all over the country. Not a way to keep the prices low.
- more shops and these are stuffed the expensive things to play around with...
- a wide array of products and most likely the largest stock keeping in Switzerland (maybe after Media Markt?)

I'd love to blame it entirely on Migros and a good share is probably their fault, but to be honest did it already go slowly down before the take over. Today I only shop there for convenience, not for the best price... having said that do they manage to still be 2-300 CHF cheaper on mobile phones than Swisscom. I really wonder who is idiotic enough to buy the sticker price in their stores...

Re: Digitec not like it was

Digitec also used to sell a lot of grey import gear, which I guess now being part of migros they can't do anymore, so official products at official prices.

no idea why migros bought them, makes no sense really.

?

Makes a lot of sense to me... Migros invested a ton of money trying to get a decent electronics online shop going. Failed pretty hard. You can either pour a few more millions in the project or buy the most well known competition. Buying digitec also kills one of the key players that was destroying the prices with grey imports...

It's a bit like FC Bayern usually not importing players from abroad but buying out the biggest talents of other Bundesliga teams instead - you don't just spend the money on improving your own team, but also weaken the competition.

Re: Digitec not like it was

buying out an online store is like pissing in the wind, there will always be another one just round the corner, buying it to essentially change its core value is particularly stupid, people used them because the where cheap (for switzerland) and had stock of new products before swiss stores, now they are neither.

nothing digitec did was rocket science, migros could have easily copied it without the grief of having to buy them, some exec at migros wanted a quick win, which will all end in tears.

It's been four and a half years since Migros bought the first 30%. Where is the next one? There have always been dozens of online shops, but let's be honest: 80% of them are till today famous for promising stock they don't actually have, terrible customer service and over all so poor performance that most people either buy in the local shop or buy abroad for actual bargins.

Digitec was not one out of many, but the outstanding one who did some things the right way the others did not manage... wether or not it is difficult is another question, but that's the facts. (and even they did get some of those cases wrong. I was waiting months for an item that was promised to ship within a week...) The Swiss market is rather small and on it's own unattractive... if Amazon enters one day will Digitec-Galaxus go down like a lead duck.

Well they ( Digitec-Galaxus ) have a good reputation and thats their big plus. Plus alot of loyal customers. And also because they are right in the middle of Zürich.

Are they part of Steg? Hubby ordered a bunch of PC components to build a PC from scratch from Steg a while ago and it had pcp.ch on the delivery note on the box.
