Re: 50 car pile up on A3 Eastbound near Bilten GL

It's still a real mess. Both carriageways still closed. Diversions in place, but westbound traffic is at a total standstill for several kilometres.

Re: 50 car pile up on A3 Eastbound near Bilten GL

So what do I do now. Do I hit the highway today or do I shift my task to Monday? Surely the highways are salted and clear by now?

Snow is no problem but ice is a pain in the neck (literally sometimes).

it was -13c plus this morning, I think still is that way, so road salt will do nothing its also pretty windy round that way so it just gets blown away anyway. Clearing 50 wrecks is going to take quite a bit of time, even more if anyone is seriously injured, is there no other route you can take?

Re: 50 car pile up on A3 Eastbound near Bilten GL

I'd say if you don't have to drive in the current conditions, can postpone whatever it is you need or want to do, then do so.

If you have to hit the roads, then calculate about half the time more than you would usually need. It is what I do, I have to be mum-taxi and for the usual approx. 20 minute one way trip, I calculate ~40 minutes. Makes for much more relaxed driving, daughter is still on time at work and i can point out at leisrure to her what NOT to do under this weather conditions when she then finally has her own car.

Thanks. No I don't need to go that direction, I need Winterthur-Zurich (on webcam it seems hardly anyone is on it = definitely no "goslow").
I was asking highways in general for today.

Who'd have thought there were 50 cars in Glarus and not only that they were all on the road at the same time.
Landi had horse blankets on sale.

There are many things to be questioned when you intend to drive from Zurich to Basel and you end up in a pile up in Glarus
Sorry, not precise enough for a Swiss: In the same way people don't not know wether they are in AG, SO, BL or whatever else on their way between Zurich and Basel are many probably not aware that they are driving through the northernmost 500m of Kanton Glarus for a short while on their way to Chur.

(How do you survive the US? I thought they tend to shoot people like this...)
