Any poker players or tournaments?

Hey members,

Are there any casual poker players or poker groups on here? All the threads and posts I found date back a few years.

I've checked Meetup and other groups, but nothing much.

There was a Ultra-secret WhatsApp group which I managed to join. All were interested somehow but a game never happened...

Here's another one:

I don't really play anymore but Pot Belly's in Adliswil had weekly poker tournaments at the weekend.

Hi Fredzzz,

We have an international group that plays Hold em once a month in St. Gallen. Stakes are low. Feel free to contact me if that interests you...

Hi all

Living in Zurich the past 5 years and just getting back into playing poker. Anyone around still playing? Would be interested in cash games or tourneys.

Cheers!

There used to be a regular Thursday evening game at Bar d'Oro in Oerlikon.

Re: Any poker players or tournaments?

www.buy-in.info is the main portal for live tournaments (mainly) in the German speaking part of Switzerland.

Casinos offer cash games most evenings and a tournament here and there. The blinds for cash game are quite steep for beginners with 5/5 and minimum buy-in of CHF500 being the norm unless you like playing short stacked. I would avoid playing cash game in casinos in Switzerland as it’s full of sharks and players with deep pockets, unless you know what you’re doing of course.

The rake for tournaments is huge around 20-30% so would make it completely not worth it in the long run.

The major places to play are:

- GC Luzern: 2 small tournaments a week with a 3-4 major tournaments a year. Cash game is quite friendly with a one or two 2/2 tables open at the weekend. Their flagship major tournament is the “Poker Circle Swiss Open” - PCSO CHF500+50 with prize pools above CHF200k

- GC Baden: multiple tournaments through the week with some poker varieties thrown in there; PLO being the most popular after THNL. Cash game is steep with lots of Regs. be extra careful. Their flagship tournament is the “Swiss Poker Championship” - Schweizer Meisterschaft CHF1800+200 (previously CHF2700+300) with prize pools normally CHF500k+.

- SC Zürich: they organise one tournament a week, with cash games open every evening as long as they have enough players. Very steep game as well and lots of regs. Again be very careful. They organise one big knockout tournament every year CHF500+500+100 (not 100% sure)

-SC Schaffhausen: similar set up to Zürich as it’s owned by the same casino group, don’t know much about it and only played one or two tournaments there. You will see the same faces from Zürich and Baden.

- Poker Palace (now called Prestige Poker): a bit out of the way but could be fun if you live in the north of Zürich. The games are mostly “freerolls”, where you pay a small CHF20.- fee to cover costs and they usually feed into one of the big tournaments in Luzern or Baden. Probably the only place I would recommend for beginners.

Please note that in Switzerland organising and playing poker with cash prizes outside of casinos is illegal, so be careful not to get in trouble as even home games or players in freerolls agreeing prizes amongst themselves is considered illegal.

I play poker regularly here in Ireland but if I move to Solothurn in March I will be looking for a regular casual game/tournament/pub game type thing for sure.

Hi,
I live in the city of Solothurn and sometimes a few of us meet for a poker night. It's friendly and relaxed since some of them don't even know all the rules. At the end the night is 30% poker, 30% whisky and 30% man-talk. No money involved.
We speak english since none of us is swiss.

That’s good to know, thank you! I will surely look you up when I settle in :)
Looks like I will get the official offer tomorrow so will probably be moving around start of April.

And yes, 10% missing there 😝

Bit off topic but anyone playing online poker who doesn't have a VPN, should clear out your accounts before July 1st. The foreign gambling site ban comes into effect from Jul 1st.

I would join, or even host. I also have a set. I have a large table, just no friends with whom to play :D

I'll send you a quick private message on here so we can connect and maybe get something going.
