Marginal tax rate here quickly reaches 40% or so, that's comparable to most other developed countries. You don't even need to be filthy rich to hit that rate, Just earn some modest 200-300k p.a., you'll pay low tax on it, sure, but the rest of your income is taxed to death. And don't forget that you owe the wealth tax too
What smart filthy rich do is shove theirs assets into holdings companies in corporate-tax-free nowhere. They don't really have to give a damn about local taxes this way no matter where they live.

I finally landed that job today (another job). I'm about to sign the contact, so this one is a concrete offer. I was wandering about your comment. It is possible to ask the Canton for subside? The job is in Geneva and there is 2+2 hour commute everyday. According to my calculations after paying tax, insurance, transport, rent I will be left with 1900 for food and other stuff. I'm not sure if I can ask for subside if I'll have that much left each month.
Wouldn't they say, I have no need for subside if I have $1900 left every month? Surely they will know food doesn't cost that much. Although, there is an argument to be made, since I'll eat out most likely everyday. 4 hours on the road + 8 hours of work, won't leave me with much to buy/prepare food.
I wouldn't really mind with what I will get, but I'm trying to save some money to start my own little business in the future, so I need to save most of what I earn.
Anyway, let me know if you have more info on the subside.

What subsidy? Nothing mentioned in the thread about any subsidies that I can see.
If you want to save more time and money move closer to your workplace - simples.

And why will it take you 2 hours to get from Lausanne to Geneva? Are you going to walk? | This user would like to thank curley for this useful post:

With that salary there are no subsidies! It is plenty for a single person. It shouldn't take you two hours to get to Geneva from Lausanne.
If it really does then you need to move.
No offense, but your sounding a bit 'entitled'.
Do what the rest of us do and be careful with your money.
Eating out everyday is a luxury. And PS, there is plenty you can eat for not a lot of money that doesn't take time to make.... how about a sandwich? Your taking public transportation? There is fresh bread and things to eat with it at the Coop at the train station.
BTW, how much money were you getting as a refugee? Sounds like you weee living in luxury if 5000 per month is not enough.

Rich people want to live here because taxes are low. | | | | | Rich foreign people do a deal & don't pay normal tax The UK, Ireland or Malta all have Non Dom's tax deals so 0% or virtually 0% is quite possible.

Ask at your commune if they could subsidize your health insurance. Sometimes they do for low income persons.

We need to keep subsidizing you? You make way too much for health care subsidies.

Pretty sure OP wasnt demanding a subsidy, he was just asking if there was one available. Considering i earned more than he will when i came to switzerland, and i looked into reducing my healthcare costs as well, i think its not that unreasonable.
He is trying to save money to start his own business, and thereby contribute back to the public purse. I really dont see why people need to respond with hostility.
People need to chill the f*** out.
OP, you can expect these sorts of responses when you tell people you were a refugee. I would advise leaving that detail out, unless very necessary, in future on EF.
That said, congratulations on making a home for yourself here and integrating enough to be offered such an opportunity. It cant have been easy, so you should be proud of yourself.
Best of luck with your new business if/when it gets off the ground.
