How much does a person living single who earns 5k/month spend in tax and healthcare?

Say I earn 5k per month, exlude food/house etc... how much do I pay in tax? I arrived as a refugee 4 years ago, I worked a little but never enough to be autonom. Now, I might get a job that pays 5k/month at first I thought it was too much but I was told that is the minimum after tax and healthcare and maybe some other thing I have to pay for.

I assume many things are taken into account, so I am single, 29, male and living in Lausanne, no health issues

Around 1 months wages in tax per year and 300-500 per month in health insurance. And what are you saying that you are getting paid too much!?

If that is the net figure you'll be fine.

Cheapest health insurance 200-300 per month, tax on that salary about 1k per month in Lausanne (probably somewhat less due to deductions) You can check on comparis, it has calculators for all these things

Why does Comparis want to know your religion if any?

So, if I get 5000 per month, I would have to pay around 1300 each month? I can't be the only one who thinks this is too much

Some religions want a cut of your income via taxes here

I though it was too much, I didn't take into account the tax/health insurance at first

Well that still leaves you 3-4k to spend on things, which is better than 0.

Ask at your commune if they could subsidize your health insurance. Sometimes they do for low income persons.

I hardly would call rent, electricity, food "to spend on things"

Twentea did say in his first post that the 5k was AFTER taxes and healthcare. So should have plenty of spending money.

No, I read it that he then has to pay tax, healthcare, etc. Healthcare is never included in salary here.

Big question is it 5k gross or net, and if net, before or after taxes.

Based on his interim response, it appears to be gross, so there is also various payroll deductions to be considered as well (500/month or so).

Well how do pay for them now? Your family pays? Can't you just keep the current arrangement?

For rent and electricity, consider a flatshare, they can be had for cheap, 500-700 fr per month or so I'd guess, all inclusive. One good site to look for them is wgzimmer.ch.

I pay 198 chf per month for health insurance per adult, 98 chf for the sprout. And I don't have the cheapest option, mind you...

Make a comparis.ch search, or contact the really friendly Jenny here in the forum for help with the insurance.

If you are alone, 5k brutto (if taxed at source, you'll have about 4k netto) is quite enough to live a comfortable life. You might not be able to get that bentley, though But you can even afford nice holidays.

The price hugely varies with commune you're living in. Just because you pay 198 in your commune doesn't mean somebody living elsewhere can get the same price in theirs. Lausanne seems to be on the expensive side when it comes to health insurance. 230 is the cheapest one i can find there, but you might want to pay a bit more for less restrictions

Congratulations on your integration success or at least to start working officially even though you were refugee.

Unless there's a special status for you, normally:

1) Estimate your taxes here:
http://www.vd.ch/themes/etat-droit-f...er-mes-impots/

2) Calculate your health insurance here:
https://www.priminfo.ch/praemien/index.php?sprache=f

Comparis, quoted by others, has its use, but it's private while priminfo is the official Suisse federal admin comparaison tool. It's not biased by x or y health company.

Welcome to the world of paying taxes
