Re: What's the least you could live on in Switzerland

For frugal but comfortable (no charity/welfare and second-hand shops, no short arms when it's your turn to pay for beer, etc.):
600 for food and drinks, 60 for mobile flat internet to also use at home (or if it's a WG you can cut costs and get cable internet), 0 to 100 for transport, a 100 for other expenses like clothes/emergency fund. So around 1700 in total.
Of course to afford good meat (and not just cervelats/kebab), you really have to look out for those 50% at coop after 5 pm, you might even get an entrecote.

For extremely frugal (meat = 1 chf cervelats) you can shave off 300 CHF.

By the way a higher gross salary doesn't matter if purchasing power ends up being lower than before.

Mine wasn't an internship btw and I would laugh into anyone's face if they figured they should earn 5-6k on an internship. Assuming it's an actual internship, not a traineeship post-graduation

donpiedro, 5k 15 years is not THAT long ago. No way 3800 would now equal 5000... I'd say 4100-4200.
I'm led to believe the banks pay 5k pm for interns.

You can cut that considerably by shopping at Lidl or Aldi.

I can't remember the last time the both of us combined spent more than 300 on a monthly shop in Lidl. Through laziness veg gets topped up at Coop and we pay for lunch at work. If we did all the shopping at Lidl including for lunch, the monthly bill for 2 would be under 600. That includes the full range of meat we'd eat on a regular basis - chicken, turkey, pork, mince, beef, steak, ostrich, cod, salmon. Lidl meat costs less than Coop even after discount.
