Breast feeding in Zurich

Hello all! I have had a look but can only find a really old thread on this subject. I am heading over to Zurich in a couple of weeks with my family and our 3 month old baby that I am breast feeding.

I would like to know if breast feeding in public in Switzerland is acceptable and are there places I should avoid doing so?

In the U.K. Now you are not allowed to ask a woman to stop breast feeding anywhere, is this the case in Zurich at all?

Thanks in advance, I just would like to avoid getting into an uncomfortable situation while there

I'd try and avoid outside public benches this time of the year, you could end up serving up ice cream

My wife has been around Zurich regularly breast feeding both of our children Most pharmacies will allow you to feed in their consultation room or office. Also in Zurich HB (Main station) head for the help station, near the lockers and toilets on the mezzanine floor. They offer a very comfortable feeding area. Many restaurants also have an area too, just ask.
Enjoy your trip!

I breastfed my kids about anywhere (train, bus, public parc, waiting room, etc) and nobody ever batted an eyelid.

CH is very pro-breastfeeding, and it's considered to be totally natural to breastfeed in public should you have to do so.

Thank you! I did hope/think as much and indeed when they need feeding they need feeding

I was more concerned with restaurants than anything, but I am pleased to hear it shouldn't be a problem!

Ey! We do belong to Europe, the continent. Just not to the EU

OP: no one cares here or will even so much as bat an eyelid, do what you have to do wherever you want

Re: Breast feeding in Zurich

Just in case, here is a list of child friendly restaurants and hotels: https://www.food4family.ch/restauran...t-z%C3%BCrich/

As others have pointed out, you can breastfeed anywhere, but I would imagine that these places are better equipped for little ones, generally (high chairs etc.)

Re: Breast feeding in Zurich

Nobody really cares, one pair of tits more or less, you can see plenty down by the lakes in summer without baby attached, really nobody is going to show the slightest bit of interest, unless you feed standing on your head doing a pirouette !

Re: Breast feeding in Zurich

I breastfed my son in various places in Zurich (including restaurants and coffee shops) and nobody ever said anything to me. You can always use a breastfeeding cover or baby carrier if you feel uncomfortable in any way 🙂

Re: Breast feeding in Zurich

There is a breast feeding group on FB run for mum's in Zurich. I can't recall the name but honey re super helpful and supportive. Give it a search and if you can't find it let , know no I can take a look. I fed both my kids in Zurich and never had an issue, street, restaurants, cafes...

Re: Breast feeding in Zurich

I live in ZH and I see women breastfeeding almost anywhere. It is totally acceptable. A friend of mine carries a shawl or big scarf with her to hide the baby/ her boob a little bit and make the whole thing a little bit more private. But if you don't mind, go for it!

Hiding the baby is acceptable but hiding the boob is often frowned at.

I live in Zurich and breastfed my baby in many locations (lakeside, restaurants, etc.). I think it`s quite accepted and you have nothing to worry about
