ESTA Application for ex-US citizens

Has anyone who has given up their US citizenship applied for a visa through ESTA? Did you give your US place of birth or the place of birth on your Swiss passport? Did you say that you had previously held a US passport? Were there any negative consequences from telling the truth? I'd be grateful to hear your experience. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure the USA will have a record of you... lie and it wouldn't look good.

Now paging Medea...

Edit to add - Your place of birth is where you were born. You don't have more than one of those. Your Heimatort on your Swiss passport is not a place of birth. It's a place of origin, i.e. where your family is from. Some people have never even visited their Heimatort.

Re: ESTA Application for ex-US citizens

Thanks for your thoughts. Full disclosure is necessary and does not hinder approval as I just received mine. For anyone embarking on the same process you need to declare openly that you were born in the US and previously held a US passport. They even ask for your parents' names (I hadn't seen that question yet when I posted my query).

Re: ESTA Application for ex-US citizens

Great questions!

Has anybody ever said they had brown eyes when they actually were kind of greenish?

Re: ESTA Application for ex-US citizens

Yes, it's all quite simple, though you do need to know the number of your US passport if you still have it. I got my ESTA with no problems, even though I'd been an "ex" for 3 years when I applied. I expected I might have to wait the whole 48 hours while they deliberated, but no I had approval within a few hours. No problems either with entry or exit, except for taking a bad photo when entering so they had to do it and the fingerprint thing again.

In a way...I have a friend with one blue eye and one green. When she had to fill out her passport application, she asked the officer what colour her eyes were, and she put blue in.
