Healthy lunch options in and around Zurich...

Well, I want to improve my rather bad diet and simply put: the lunch options around my office are terrible. We got a kebab place, a subways and some pizza places. When we are fed up with all of the above do we drive to the next highway exit where there is a place with decent but equally not-so-healthy options of burgers or club sandwhiches.

Fortunately is Zurich not that big and I can drive around a bit... what are your recommendations for a more healthy lunch?

This was one of my favorite spots: Bottega Berta. Aside from the regular menu, they have additional lunch specials that they change daily. They used to have a lunch special (maybe they still do) where you could get a pasta dish or a big salad, plus beverage, plus coffee for around CHF 15-20.

How about taking something healthy to eat with you and with the time you save driving around in your car looking for something to eat, you could go for a brisk walk instead, increasing the health potential of your lunch break?

Says a guy who has "eating KFC" in his profile...

I simply like eating out and want variety and healthy food options. I work in sales and cannot always carry a lunchbox around. And I am frankly too lazy to spend the little free time I have in the evenings on preparing the next lunch.

Re: Healthy lunch options in and around Zurich...

Nothing beats home cooking. If you're really looking for a lifestyle change you could consider a few easy recipes and cook them the previous evening.

If eating out, Hiltl, Tibits would be my top 2. A friend recently shared info on a food delivery service https://nosh-pots.ch/. I haven't tried them yet so don't have any first hand feedback to share.

Oops, I posted before I read this. Frankly if the bar is set at "eating KFC" at the moment, I bet plenty more places would qualify as "healthi-er food options", relativity rocks! It might help if you share what kind of food you're looking for, one man's heal-thy could be another man's hell-thee.

Dean & David by Stockerstrasse tram stop. Take a huge wad of cash!

(Or there's a kebab place opposite)

As you said, "you're too lazy".

Being healthy does take a bit of effort and a bit of a change in routine.

It's also dreadful around my current main office in Zürich Altstetten. You'd think that with so many thousands of (I guess UBS) employees around there, the offer would be more than what you've described. It's abysmal, compared to what my non-IT colleagues get offered elsewhere.

But there's a small microwave kitchen (from around 1950, and which never gets cleaned), for those who bring in a curry.

The Altstetten UBS canteen salad bar is hardly use-able (in comparison to the City canteen). Could recommend loads of places in the City e.g. taking a sandwich. salad or soup and enjoying it on a park bench in the Old Botanical Gardens. Or otherwise a healthy restaurant.

What kind of food are you after? And you mentioned needing a parking place at the same time?

Where do you work??
All of these places sell salads, that are prepared right in front of you at the moment. They also tend to have wraps, paninis and soups too.
I recommend:
- ROMI: http://r-o-m-i.com/ Love their salads and menus are great value.
- Not Guilty: https://www.notguilty.ch/ Love their salads too. You can add chicken, salmon and beef.
- Gartnerei: https://www.gartnerei.ch/ Cool bowls, quite big. There are a few all around ZH.

Balsberg (near the airport) has a canteen with a fairly big salad bar. They also often have fish/vegetarian recipes. Canteen is open for every one

In all fairness, you can do that only when the weather allows...and if you have colleagues who go out for lunch you do seem a bit asocial...oder? Sometimes it's not only about what you'd like to do but what you should/are expected to..

I've spent lunchtimes in the past either running with colleagues or going for a walk with them.

Perhaps these colleagues don't want a healthy lunch and would rather eat something different - would the OP be anti-social in that situation too?

I quickly skimmed the replies so I'm sorry if any of these suggestions have already been made. I've tried all of these and can find healthy options.

Hiltl (few locations around Zurich)
make your own salad at Globus
not guilty (few locations around Zurich)
Tibits

Also, any Japanese noodle shop or Vietnamese restaurant will have healthy soups. Nothing like a big bowl of Pho!

If you can get near HB or Bellevue easily, the Globus cafe usually has some healthy salad options as well as soups, sandwiches, etc., and when the weather is nice you can also sit outside!

Re: Healthy lunch options in and around Zurich...

It depends on where you work... for the person from Altstetten there is a little indian place near the Toni Areal called Naanu (http://www.naanu.ch) right off the tramline. Decent and not too expensive.

Also near the swisscom building on Pfingstweidstr. is the Steiner Flughafebeck that offers good sandwiches, soups, quiches, salads (http://www.flughafebeck.ch/standorte...tweidpark.html)
