Dentist costs - quiz of the week

Yesterday one of my teeth broke, so off to the dentist I went,
3 xrays, 1 hour of root canal work and a temp filling later I'm free

What can I expect the bill to be? I didn't want to ask lastnight as my day had been bad enough already

Come on, cheer me up

He's in Glarus. Could be as low as 1000.

However when the temporary filling is replaced with something permanent, that's going to be up to another 2500 on top though....

Re: Dentist costs - quiz of the week

Initial bill ofr the temp work I would say 1250.00.

What does the closest guess win?

Re: Dentist costs - quiz of the week

May be able to give you a rough idea. These from my recent dental visits back in August.

Examination 54.80
X-rays (4) 85.80
Anesthesia (3) 128.70
Mordançage (I assume the root canal) 128.70

There are other charges regarding the temp and eventually permanent root canal filling, but my French isn't up to working out which filling was which out of the 6 plus canal I needed to have done. All the work came to 2,119.65 and took 5 visits in total.

Re: Dentist costs - quiz of the week

Is the temp filling a true temporary filling - that soft rough stuff that you (OK, I) can worry out within 2 days of it being put in place? Or is it a proper ceramic filling hardened with UV and all the rest of it that he says will need replacing "soon" with something permanent and seriously expensive?

I ask because I have the latter in/on one that is now well past it's 5th birthday and still going strong. I need a decent reason to part with 2500 for a piece of posh china in my mouth.

If the latter I up my estimate to 1200. I want that prize - I'll auction it on EF....

its just the rough soft stuff, the root was too swollen (or something) he said to put a proper filling in now, have to go back in 2 weeks

Re: Dentist costs - quiz of the week

I saw a dentist in the Netherlands last year, 3 visits (almost 3 hours in total), 4 x-rays, 3 fillings and lots of cleaning and it cost about 230.00 Euros, that's about 260.00 chufs at todays exchange rate.

Does that help with your estimate?

Re: Dentist costs - quiz of the week

My husband paid 800chf for similar thing here at the dentist in Neuchâtel. That was for the initial consultation with x rays, two visits for root canal work and a temporary ( but he's had it for over two years now) filling.

That's the stuff they put on the teeth in preparation for a filling/composite/veneer to help it stick I think.

Root canal is canal radiculaire and root canal trearment is sometimes referred to as traitement endodentique.

Anything between CHF 275.20 and a good CHF 1000, depending on a whole lot of details you couldn't provide. Maybe even more due to things that you forgot to mention.

That's a crown, not a filling, right?

I've never heard of a "ceramic filling hardened with UV," and I've been in the trade for almost 45 years. What you mean is an acrylic filling with an inorganic filler substance, which in some cases may be a powder made of a ceramic material.

There's a lot of water in wine but it's still called wine.
