So: Have you ever been an expat? because the one group that I witnessed to stick extremely well to each other in Asia were the Swiss abroad...
I know there are "Swiss clubs" everywhere (which are not as active and secluding as the German clubs). I guess it's in our family (well, on my fathers side at least, the stepmother was German and very involved in the German club) to be more open to where we live (as why the f** do we live there if we're not?). I was a holiday-expat (being in an international boardings school here). The only times we actually took part in a Swiss-club-thing was the August 1st party ...... and that was fun as half the people were Ecuadorians with a Swiss passport, speaking Spanish only.

As to Asia, I guess as those languages are a lot harder to learn and customs are very different, many people are happy to have a community of their own, specially if only on short-term assignments. Still, I do have friends who moved there, learnt the language and feel at home there.

I always wondered whether there were three or four Swiss people on this forum, employed by the Swiss authorities to monitor this forum and to put the weird and the strange expats in their place when they stepped out of line by criticising Swiss food, Migros, Swiss laws etc.

That's how it actually appears to me but of course they may just be doing it subconsciously as they take criticism of anything Swiss personally.
If there are you got nothing to worry about. You come accross so uptight, they will be convinced your were bred, born and brought up in Switzerland.

I doubt it. I'm too progressive for that and I don't believe in homeopathy!

Well, if you say so, then it must be true.

Re: Polynesian groups, hangouts, people...anything?

Mahalo for your question some years ago about connecting with the Hawaiian ohana in Switzerland. I am surprised some interpreted it as a lack of interest in the local Swiss culture. I live in Switzerland and have an international circle of friends including Swiss My husband is Swiss and I love Swiss culture. Naturally, as the Big Island ~ Island of Hawaii is also my home (30 years), I love meeting others from Hawaii. This is a forum that welcomes inquiry and helps each other - no need to project onto legitimate questions. So, any others on this forum, Hawaiian or from Hawaii, I would love to meet and talk story. Please message me.
