Polynesian groups, hangouts, people...anything?

I myself am Hawaiian and my wife was born and raised in Hawaii. We are currently living in Seattle which has a huge Polynesian presence. We are relocating to Zurich in April and I was wondering if Zurich had any Polynesian clubs, groups, or meet-ups?

Thanks and I hope I put this in the right section.

The closest to what you're looking for is watching Magnum P.I. reruns on television...other than that, you're way out of luck. Sorry bud, safe travels and welcome to the forum.

Just wondering .... why bother moving around if you ask for your own even in advance? I think Hawaii is crowded with what you're looking for?

I think moving to a country and being curious if there are others like you or from the same background does not disqualify you from living abroad.

Why not? I always want to know how big the Italian community is wherever I go. It's nice to laugh at the same jokes every once in a while, and I think it does not necessarily take away from the experience of living abroad.

My (Swiss) wife, when living in England was fed up with Swiss people living there trying to befriend her.

Some were great and we're still friends now. Others...well....

People from every nationality do it. It's normal (note the word "normal").

Because nobody on EF is interested in socialising with those of their own kind when in a strange and distant land. People just turn up with instant knowledge of the local language and a list of contacts.

That said, you will find plenty of Americans in Zurich.

http://aicz.ch/

http://www.awczurich.org/

They can tell you all about the fun you're going to have trying to get a bank account here and explain why you still need to file US tax returns.

Welcome to the forum and soon to Switzerland.

He was asking about Polynesians and Hawaiians...not plain Americans. Also, please don't refer people to the AWCZurich, they're like the Stepfordwives on Percocets. I've traveled the world and I have yet to meet a more pretentious group of Ohio housewives turned bougy...it's like keeping up with the Joneses just got real. "No dear, we don't shop at target anymore, we moved up to Nordstrom"

They don't have to join if they don't want to. If you don't like that club then recommend some others for the OP to suss out.

Probably because they trust them to see things as OP sees them hence their opinion on any given subject is more applicable to OP's specific issues. I guess.

But I'm not an expat where I live. So if I write on here, it means I reach out to the weird and strange , not clinging on to my own breed

So: Have you ever been an expat? because the one group that I witnessed to stick extremely well to each other in Asia were the Swiss abroad...

I always wondered whether there were three or four Swiss people on this forum, employed by the Swiss authorities to monitor this forum and to put the weird and the strange expats in their place when they stepped out of line by criticising Swiss food, Migros, Swiss laws etc.

That's how it actually appears to me but of course they may just be doing it subconsciously as they take criticism of anything Swiss personally.
