Good garden/plant supply stores? (Zurich)

Hey all, I'm wanting to get a few pots and a bag of potting soil to grow some non-nefarious plants in my apartment in Zurich and it occurs to me I haven't seen a store around - can anyone recommend me somewhere within a reasonable distance of either a bus or, ideally, a train? (I'm out in Altstetten, so local stuff is even better)

None of my classmates seem to know, but I haven't gotten around to interrogating the Swiss ones yet (most of them commute from the countryside anyways, to be fair).

.... also if anyone knows where to pick up high power lighting (metal halide / sodium lamps) because the Zurich sun is not great, I'd love a recommendation there - otherwise I can just do that on Amazon.

Many thanks,
Jahkral

Lidl have got pots in stock already and you have a branch in Alstetten. Aldi, up the road in Schlieren, have also began stocking gardening stuff too. Anything more than that can be bought at places like Bau + Hobby. There's a large branch accessible directly from the station platform at Kusnacht Goldbach. Just get the train from Alstetten to Stadelhofen and change to the S6 or S16 and it's 3 stops (about 7mins) from there.

Not sure about the lighting because the type you're asking about would possibly arouse suspicion, so I'll just have to take your word for the plants being 'non-nefarious'.

Many thanks! I have free time this weekend so I'll go check the places out. I'll probably just get the extra lights on amazon - my little room I am in has a single (ok sized, at least) window that isn't so well lined with the sun

Forgot to mention, if you take a walk across to Hardbrucke, or get the train via HB, try the Heilsarmee Brocki there by the station. They always have pots etc outside at low prices.

Well, first off, google was seriously not giving me any useful results, I have no idea why.

Second off, I have no car access, hence the whole "train access priority" deal.

However, thanks for the suggestions, I"ll add them to my list

All these places are in Zurich or max20 min with train/ bus. OBI has a huge garden shop in Schwerzenbach. And Jumbo in Dietlikon has another huge garden shop.I recommend these two. They should have the lighting you need as well. Hauenstein is also very good and good quality

Hauenstein have excellent garden centers. I bought many a great shrub/plant from them in Winterthurerstrasse, not far from the Glatt shopping center. The one in Rafz is much larger and worth a visit even if only to feast-your-eyes on all the varieties they have

Jumbo by Hardbrucke have a good range of plants, compost and pots etc, but depending what part of ZH you are Landi are absolutely the best and cheapest. (They also sell farm equipment and clothing, furniture, local foods, beer and wine.)

There's a very nice shop in Gattikon, near the railway station, but I think it's a little expensive.
