Creepy dude or friendly guy ?

Hi all ,

This past weekend I went to meet some friends, and came back home on the train quite late. I rode the train with a friend, and she continued on to her stop while I got off. My husband was picking me up at the station, but he hadn't arrived and so I had to wait.

I sat on a very well lit bench, with a good view of the parking/taxi/pick up area, and made sure to be around other people (there were three girls sitting behind me and a handful of other people in view) .

I noticed a man pull up in a white van and park his car. I didn't think much of it, and just thought he was also picking someone up. After a few minutes, he got out of his car and started pacing around in front of me. His pacing seemed nervous/angry, but again I didn't think too much of it.

Then he started pacing around the bench like a shark, and that's when I started to become uneasy. I tried to ignore him, and eventually he went back near the parking lot, and made some phone calls. Eventually, he yelled out to me ' Hey. Hey you.Are you cold ? ' To which I replied, ' No I'm not. ' Then he asked if I wanted to get in his van with him and stay warm. At this point, I firmly said 'No. I'm waiting for my husband. He'll be here soon.'

Right after I said that, he walked back to his van and drove off. I don't think he was waiting for anyone, and I found it really creepy.

While there were other people at the station who might have helped in an emergency situation, is there some sort of alarm or button to push to call for police at the train station ?

Stay safe ladies .

Creepy dude for sure...

There's an emergency app, I don't have it myself, but my mom does. I think it's this one: https://www.rettemich.ch/ I think location is enabled so they will find you in an instant

Or set up an emergency call on your phone, sans app.

Re: Creepy dude or friendly guy ?

Unknown guy asks you if you want to get warm inside his van with him?

If this is not the beginning of the new SAW movie, it's at least the opening credits to Law & Order - SVU

I vote creepy dude.

Police emergency number: 117

Sit there, and wait for a good reply from EF.
And if you want to make more threads on the topic, then go to Zurich Main Station.

I find more worrying that you are not sure. Do you really think that could have been a friendly guy??

Any station, any country. Better be vigilant anytime anywhere than just somewhere somewhen.

Actually, I have read somewhere that carrying a knife - or like in the movies, picking up a kitchen knife as soon as you hear an intruder - usually ends up worse for you unless you really know how to brandish the thing.

Carry a bazooka in your purse. Way more threatening, and you probably will never have to use it!

Yes, that's obvious but if it's a local guy in the area trying his luck, it might be a good idea to give the location as a heads up to anyone travelling with a stop-off at that station.

Maybe he realises his pacing/warm van routine didn't work so might try something a bit more convincing next time.

Somehow from the story I get the feeling that he was more socially inept than creepy/dangerous. But still it sounds like you reacted in the right way

Look for the nearest fire extinguisher, it doesn't matter what type:
  1. You don't need to be able to aim it with a great deal of accuracy.
  2. You don't have to be up close.
  3. A blast anywhere near the mouth, nose, eyes will generally stop anyone from whatever they were doing.
  4. Once it's empty you can bonk him on the head if he starts to get back up again.
  5. If it is a powder type and he runs off, it will make it pretty easy for the plod to identify him.

I did get that inkling but even if its the case, a woman (or a man, for that matter) cant really take chances, so i guess its safer to be vigilant and to assume not.

Re: Creepy dude or friendly guy ?

Thank you, yes I have the emergency numbers. Our insurance sends out a little card with the emergency numbers on it .

I just thought that in case of an emergency, pulling an alarm or pushing a button could be faster, and it's good to know.

As for being creepy or not, I thought he was very creepy. So, I'm only joking about the title of the post.

However, I've been told before that I can make a big deal out of nothing.

I would also suggest calling the local Plod office. He may be known to them, and even if he isn't, then I suspect they'd like to make his acquaintance.
