"21,000 global citizens" decided on this? ROFL, what's the world's population? Can't be bothered to look it up as it changes while I do.
Not worth the paper this is written on - oh it's not even on paper, is it. All virtual.

The US magazine "US News & World Report" has interviewed 21,000 people worldwide in a total of 65 aspects of their lives.
If you read the methodology, they actually didn't do that.

They interviewed people on their perception of the countries, independent of whether they had any real clue as to reality.

So in effect, this is a survey of how countries are represented in the media to people in other countries.

EE, you should be proud, not furious & angry !

Let me re-phrase my rant of yesterday.

I am indeed very proud of my country and its achievements overall (without being a right-wing nationalist, mind!) we ARE slow in achieving things.
I am the first to admit to that, but then I think, it is better to achieve things slowly, well thought out than to shoot from the hip without switching brain on first, to put it bluntly. Also political changes here take a little more time due to our unique Political system.
There is not just one Clown at the helm who can do as he/she pleases.....and we got a BIG say in everything too, this slows things down a big bit!

I was putting my being furious in (sorry, not so clear context) with a lot of the tone in the EF towards Switzerland and usually also geared towards its native inhabitants.

In the world’s eye we achieved something pretty good, which is not done from yesterday to today, to reach this standard of living et al. Things like that need a lot of time, thus my reference to my forebears.
Add to that, that my time in a care profession nursing elderly people which were born around the 1900’s, talking with them and hearing their stories, showed me how hard, rocky and long the way was, to reach the standard Switzerland is at today....and is the basis of how we achieved this good ranking.

A thing many people seem to forget and due to superficial Heidi-like TV or Films or what other superficial preconceptions , even today, lots of people still think every Swiss is well off, yet a mountain hut dwelling Neanderthal at the same time, once they arrive here and are confronted with our way of life.
Whether this comes from our somewhat binding, yet unwritten (mostly behavioural) codes and admittedly a lot of rules and regulations, which are pretty normal for most us Natives and give many of us to this day, a kind of security.

I am also particularly miffed at the low ranking in regards to heritage! I don’t friggin’ care about low ranking in humour, btw, we got a plenty of that too, just not the knee-slapping hooting out loud kind of it. It is simply more subtle, true Swiss style!

Sex...... each to their own I say (as long as I get my fair share of it :P ) , just as well as not every Greek or Italian guy is a stallion either, just to serve another prejudice!

And don’t get me started about non-existent good Swiss Food, or this missile will become a trillion pages long!

Rant over and I hope I made myself clearer. If not, send letter with enclosed and stamped return envelope: P to EE somewhere around Biel.

Wow. So acurate.

So I don't have to worry about residing in an anti-epicurean place, after all. Was gonna move to Greece or something.

Yes, but who really cares what EF'ers think? If we are honest with ourselves we all know that EF'ers are some of the most miserable, neurotic so-and-so's around. The Swiss often appear like shining beacons of calm and tranquility compared to the vitriol spouted by this forum as a collective, and I would wager that the vast majority of Swiss are happier and more at peace themselves than the members of this forum*. Don't take it personally

*st2lemans excepted of course, because we all know his life is perfect in every facet that he is able to brag incessantly about.

Oh I don't, fear not.
One can not distribute without being able to receive as well.....and I take it on the chin!

I am in this 'shoehorning-expats-into-CH-game' since the year 2000 so it is NOT ALL EF related, just experience related, maybe I have a very masochistic streak to still wanting to do it.

But more likely my cup overfloweth in one big fat spill from all the (typical Swiss) suppressed frustration amassed over all those years shoehorning......and a not necessarily linked thing made me angry.

It is out and water under the bridge now...thanks for listening...eehhrrm reading.

Well, perceptions aren't always wrong... can't say I'd choose here (or Greece) as a centre of epicurean delight!

Epicurean fun aside...in order to protect epicurean delights, I think we gotta be somewhere where it won't be nicked within a couple of minutes. So I chose a place that stays intact even if one forgets to lock. Ha! Call me an epicurean pragmatic. I think these surveys are flawed by ignoring a lot that contributes to creating a whole environment. What is the point of being a hedonist in an unsafe or unstable environment. ( I still really like the idea of the epicurean Greece)

What Blick writes is ALWAYS accurate, even more so the bigger the letters on the front page are, indicating the article

Indeed, there's a fair amount of cultural chauvinism for their home countries present among quite a few (though far from all) EF members.

I just read today that Tauruses are epicurean, lol.

What more is there in life than food, sex and humor?!
Indeed, we are, in our own Taurean way. We are Venus' children, after all, are we not?

As to your question, I would only add books and world travel to the above list.

This hits the nail in the head, and yes, these surveys are BS. Although it's interesting that they apparently were asking about people's perceptions of reality.

I think Switzerland has plenty of good food, sex, and humor/humour, if one knows where to look.
