Anyone got a half decent motorhome / caravan they would 'lend' me?

as per title, after a motorhome or worst case caravan to 'borrow' (in exchange for money) for a week / 10 days in aug, want to do a mini road trip in italy but the mileage allowances on the rentals makes that impossible for a weeks rental , don't know the logistics of doing such a thing, extra insurance I guess? can also 'lend' you a mustang as a sweetner

Take a look at mycamper.ch. Sort of an airbnb for motorhomes. I looked into it a month back and most seemed too expensive and restrictive but maybe some cooler people have joined since then.

How about driving your car to Italy and rent from there?

That is what we plant to do this autumn, renting on the French side.

Re: Anyone got a half decent motorhome / caravan they would 'lend' me?

I'd rather lend you my husband than my caravan. It's a who's been sleeping in my bed type thing. Those rental places do charge a fortune though. We were thinking of hiring a campervan at one point but they price themselves out of most peoples budgets. Odiles idea sounds good... look up Fly & Drive or buy a tent.

well they sent through their offer and yep no km limit, but they are 3 times more expensive then the places that do have a km limit, so totally out of the question

so back to the original question, anyone?

Unlimited kms here

Would it make sense to buy used (15-20k chuffs), spruce up and resell (at more or less the same price) after the trip? Possible?

Good luck with that. Unless it's an absolute shed, few owners will lend theirs to a stranger or a friend of a friend.

The last time I checked, renting one for a couple of weeks wasn't far off from 1/3 the price of buying a used one, and for a likely lad such as yersel...

Rover never made motor homes, did they?

lol wouldn't be seen dead in that! after a few creature comforts too, like shower.

have thought about buying, but I'm getting lazy (lazier) in my old age, I can't be bothered to buy a beater and fix it up.

Doubs Loisirs in Jougne have really good prices and a range of vehicles- but July and August are much more expensive- of course.

They have a system of 'timeshare' there - where you buy a vehicle and use it for so many weeks a year, and they rent it on your behalf for the rest, dealing with rentors, cleaning, maintenance, etc.

I presume you are looking to "tour" - surely B&Bs will work just as well?

Caravans/motorhomes have always been stupidly expensive to rent (outside of the USofA).

Tenting is a going to be a pain if you are moving on regularly.

B&B's are a pain to find when you have no idea where you are going, and ones that accept dogs. looks like it'll be plan b, rent a villa and sit by the pool

Alright, 2nd attempt: http://www.carawero.ch/wohnmobile-preise.cfm (no mileage limit for a rental period longer than 8 days)

Campsites are often fully booked up too for August so you'd either need to pre-book, stay on the side of the road (not much fun in the Italian sun), or end up driving from campsite to campsite trying to find one with a vacant pitch for your motorhome.
(Which kind of takes away the free-spirit part of the motor home holiday).
