I've got three small birds ready to stuff and send. Wouldn't be a Disney theme without bluebirds....

Just need your address

Thank you very much - will PM you.

I've just finished 7 yards of floral bunting that I nearly lost to a friend-of-a-friend's vintage wedding... I think I may inadvertently have got my first commission!

Damn, damn, damn...
I didn't see this breakaway thread until a minute ago, I had been puzzled as to why BM was talking about bunting in the original one.

My sincere apologies for not joining in; it wasn't intentional and sadly I think it's too late now to make anything if the stuff needs to be there by the 6th, definitely next time though.

Rufus, that chain is beautiful, no wonder your friend tried to nick it!

Ah thank you any way.

This is the bunting I nearly lost!

Re: Community knit project the fourth - for RufusB

I see I'm too late for another project... which is especially frustrating as I live in the UK.

Could I suggest that someone starts a master thread - something like "Community Knit Projects" where links can be posted to the sixth, seventh etc projects? People could then subscribe to that thread and wouldn't miss anything.

Rufus, could I be cheeky and ask for the pattern for that floral bunting? I'd love to try and make some to decorate my new flat!

It's a bastardisation of various 5-flower patterns on the interweb - do you want UK or US terms?

Absolutely yes I can give you the pattern, just don't want to write it out twice!

Hey RufusB, I've split you to your own thread, so we can keep the projects separate and clearly know what's going on with each.
Goodness, which one did I praise today

Hi Rufus,

is this ok? I'm making it longer, of course, but wanted to check first

Hi, UK terms please... otherwise I'll be googling everything!

Thank you!

Re: Community knit project the fourth - for RufusB

Ok

5-petal crochet flower - UK terms

Chain 5, slip stitch to form a loop, 1 chain (does not count as stitch).
10 double crochet into loop, slip stitch last dc into first to join. Catch tail end in as you go and you may have to use the yarn end to pull the centre circle tighter. A magic ring would probably work just as well but I actually find this quicker.

Chain 3 (acts as first treble crochet).
4 x treble crochet into next stitch. Chain three. Slip stitch into next stitch to "anchor" the petal. The chain threes act as a kind of "petal edge" and give it a bit of shape and movement. This is not a "flat" flower.

*Chain three from same place, 4tr in next stitch, ch 3, sl st into next stitch to secure this petal. * repeat 3 more times from *.

The idea is that you use up all of your 10 stitches with the 5 petals. Slip stitch at end to join. Fasten off. If you want a bunting loop, pull that up before you fasten off your yarn.

To make the bunting chain, I chained 20 then "hung" the flower loop on my hook and made the next chain around it, securing the petal to the chain. I then chained 10 between each flower and repeated until the end.

I hope that this makes sense - if not, just google "5 petal crochet flower" and you should come up with a video. I'm not sure if other patterns do 3 or 5 trebles per petal, but this works for me.

Happy hooking!

Is this any good? It's not awfully long but it's all I had time for at the moment.
If I pop it in the post this afternoon hopefully you'll have it for the 6th.
