Re: do you know any restaurant in Zürich, that does NOT bill for tap water

From my experience, a vast majority does not charge for "Leitungswasser". I know some places where it's even served in a nice jar, including ice (made from Leitungswasser too!) in it. All for free.

Of course I drink (and eat, but not always) other items too there.

Re: do you know any restaurant in Zürich, that does NOT bill for tap water

In Geneva, it's normal that when you order a coffee they also bring a glass of water,

I have no idea if they charge for the water, I don't nitpick over the bill. As long as the coffee is good. The water is always good.

Also, I would think it quite normal to charge for a carafe or two of water with a meal if you are not drinking wine as well., or even an apple juice.

But then, i don't eat in the posh places that Aresid seems to eat in. The local bistrot will do me... where, i also, don't know if they charge for water. Who cares?

And in the heat we have had recently - a nice cold beer or shandy is preferable to a coffee. Drink the water out of the toilet taps. Or take your own. But in that scenario - you may get the staring...!!

Or just stay at home reading Tripadvisor and annoying people on Fora.

The purpose of this thread was to find out which restaurants in Zurich give water for free, not to complain about personal experience. So that I can choose which restaurant to go to. I don't mind paying 7fr for a beer or a glass of wine.. But tap water has to be free, because I drink a lot during a meal.
Are you going alone or...? One piece of advice - stay away from the free tap water subject if you'll go on a date.

Oh that reminds me. Friend of mine once went on a date with this guy, lawyer, early 30s, certainly earned a decent amount of money. Went to a restaurant, he orders tap water (ugh). Asked for the bill, was charged CHF 1 for the water. Apparently threw a proper tantrum, screaming at the waitress and all about how she could possibly dare to charge him ONE WHOLE FRANC for the water. This was summer, outside in the garden, all guests just staring. My friend wanted to die of embarrassment. Never saw him again of course...

Wouldn't it be great if these things always happened on the FIRST date?

I can recommend many which will not make you pay for a glass of tap water to your ordered (payable) food.

Let me know if this fits the search criteria.
i want unlimited water, not just a single glass. i drink a lot during a meal. I also dont mind ordering something else to drink like a beer, or even a spritz aperol. if it is not above 10Fr.

You have a very cynical view of "human rights abuse".

I'd get checked out for a medical condition if you need to drink that much.
Diabetes at least

Not in Switzerland of course.

I'd drink at least a liter during a food meal. Some foodis salty or spicy hence makes me thirsty. Those riddiculous bottles of 0.5L that they serve in restaurants in ZH are definietly not sufficient for a meal. That's what i call a human right abuse.

I really would get checked out - seriously

The recommended consumption of a non-diuretic liquid (not just water) is around 1.5 to 2 litres.

So either you are ill, exercise too much, or sweat like a fat knacker.
Or *are* a fat knacker.

Yep, especially the electrolyte levels. If they get too low then the brain has trouble processing information.

@aresid, do you have the impression that you're up to the task of processing information reliably? I take it that when you post here on EF you're in reasonably close proximity to a faucet or tap. There might just be a correlation there.

To be fair, that's not exactly normal, is it? I guess restaurants cater to the "average" restaurant go-er, not the odd one in a million that arrives at the restaurant in a seemingly desiccated state.

I drink most of the water during meals, depending on how much i eat and how salty the food is.
For example if I eat a pizza out. I drink one liter during the meal and 1 other liter during the rest of the day.

the average restaurant customer outsiude of CH gets 0.75L bottles, because outside of Ch restaurants are human right friendly.

I think you are mixing up "human rights" with "customer service".

You sound like you had a very privileged and sheltered upbringing, to be honest.

Yes I had, just like anyone who lives outside Switzerland.
Kids growing up outside CH are privileged compared to those growing up in CH
