Donkey Bottoms

All are welcome to turn this one into a Friday thread

The problem is such. Lately I feel like I have punchbag written all over my face.

I must admit I do look fairly harmless, especially when I am wearing my glasses. Still.. WTF?

How can one say "I kill you if you don't stop with this attitude" in a nice way in German? In public. In situations where ignoring is not an option.

Menopause misery?

"Dein Verhalten irritiert mich" is a nice way of saying it.

LmaA is a not so nice way

What kind of situations, though? Nasty comments on the tram? Overzealous waiters? Random teenagers being leery while you're waiting for a bus? Mansplaining chaps while you're standing at the water cooler?

The type of response depends on the situation, really.

Never use German/SD in an argument. You are immediately at a disadvantage.

Give them a bit of 'Go on punk, make my Friday' through gritted teeth...

Re: Donkey Bottoms

The worst was a guy (same team) screaming at me during an amateur volleyball match. True, I was not standing on the right position in the court. But screaming and being nasty? Repeatedly? I pulled the A-hole card after a while. He pulled the same. I asked why am I one? Because I called him one. I am looking for something more productive. To get the message across. I will get banned if I punch him.

I think I would have stood back and enjoyed the spectacle of a grown man "screaming". That must have been quite something.

Like proper "house of horrors" screaming or "mum's found the pet mouse in the wardrobe" screaming? Brilliant.

Re: Donkey Bottoms

With most assholes the best response is not to respond.

They're generally so good at demonstrating it themselves that they don't need any help.

At the absolute most, after not responding enough times that everyone else is quite clear about the situation... "Does anyone else feel like just leaving the room right now?" in a calm, quiet voice usually does the trick.

When faced with a screaming knobstick who clearly has no self control... smile. Smile broadly, smile brilliantly, smile.

It will piss them off like nothing else. And you will appear to have taken the moral(ish) high ground.

And just waiting for them to come to the end of their hissy fit, pause, then calmly ask them "Have you finished?", withering stare, carry on with the game.

Re: Donkey Bottoms

The thing is, the game must go on (literally). No time for smiling. The jerk runs up to me, screams, runs back. Does it again. I guess if this happens again today, I will walk up to him, ask him to look me in the eye and tell me what his problem is.

How does one say "back off dude" in German?

"fertig jetzt".

Expressed as a question, it's roughly equivalent to "Are you finished?"

Expressed as an exhortation, it's roughly equivalent to "Stop now!"

Is he aggressive and arrogant in the same way with the other team members, too?

Is there a team coach or someone in charge you can complain to? It's not really acceptable to have to put up with a tit like that when it's something you are doing for your own leisure. Would he scream like a banshee at a bloke the same size or bigger than him? I would bet he wouldn't.

The problem with learning pat phrases is that you open yourself up for further abuse if you get it wrong, or can't understand what they say in response.

But believe me... it feels sooo good when you've got enough German under your belt that you can dust the floor with this kind of twat. It really embarrasses them when someone with an accent calmly puts them in their place.

Yes, but I don't want to be the one who runs to the teacher.

I think "Fertig jetzt" should do it! Thank you, JagWaugh!

Thank you, all!

Re: Donkey Bottoms

Saying in German is one thing - but I'm willing to bet that the right body language and best "dog has just widdled on the fancy rug" tone of voice" will translate. An "Oi, stop it, what is your problem?" may just work. As Sandgrounder said, however, is he singling you out? If so, maybe collar him after/before a game, with someone else with you and ask him what the issue is. Maybe he has a problem playing nicely with others.

Do you have any particular posts in mind?

Unfortunately I've had to work in an office-environment where I've had no access to social media for a bit.

Happy to look into this injustice for you now that I've taken a day off sick.

Many of the suggestions along the lines of not responding or responding only mildy, work if they help you to remain sovereign, to keep your adult compusure when faced with someone behaving like a spoilt child. Laughing is another one. A real, loud, belly-laugh. But only if it feels true, authentic, not mocking. The same way one might laugh at a four year old who ticks his parents off for not cleaning up the kitchen.

One can make it authentic most likely only if you manage, in that split second, to realise how silly the whole situation is. A grown man (him) having a screaming fit because he doesn't happen to like the way one of his team-mates (you) is playing a recreational game. What silly nonsense!

Before you set off to the next game, try to imagine the scene again, but with the sound switched off. Watch his lips moving, his jugular throbbing, his finger pointing in your face, but no sound. Doesn't he look foolish? Realising that might help you to remember, when you he next does it, what a silly tantrum he is throwing, and just shake your head at his daftness, and turn away to carry on with the game, with the other players.

Re: Donkey Bottoms

Incredulously raised eyebrows also work. Plus the forced look of surprise stops you looking (however inadvertently) worried.

You are infinitely superior to this twatfink in every way. Never forget that.
