Clearly not as many people here on the Standard 120K+ salary when you have to anguish over five extra bucks a month.

We work, we have salaries, we can afford that MoccachoccaorangeFrapuccino or maybe even a Swiss Netflix account.

At least it gives us all something to grumble about, I guess.

As for the content, I find the Swiss choice suitable to my needs, House of Cards, The Americans, The Last Kingdom, Sense8 etc etc. I certainly don't have time to watch it all.
Anguishing is not the same as throwing away - I don't begrudge paying my local store more for a product they've shipped and they're paying staff more to support.

I do try to avoid paying a global provider more based on my address when that is completely irrelevant to the wiring of the internet. I'm already paying for that in Cablecom fees...

Re: Costs of Netflix in CH vs other countries...

I'm using Netflix here. It does seem a bit light in content compared to the UK.

I especially dislike it when I finally choose a programme / film I want to watch, then I realise it only has German audio and no English subs!

I pay 8.99GBP or 11.41CHF per month, signed up on the UK site.

Well worth it for all of the content on there...

Netflix is now generalizing its cost as per continents, you check out below source.

What does generalizing mean? Why would anyone with ~average IQ trust a "source" called wildtricks? Oh, your first post..apologies, thought you were serious

I mean that where cost is higher, Netflix is adding more and more content, to generalize the price tag

I searched for how much is netflix and I went through wiltrik to the actual reason which plan is better and why different price margin in different countries, hence I mentioned it here

You are completely confusing yourself, I made the effort to read the article and stopped when ".. Netflix also consists of web series and TV Shows such as Game of Thrones and all..." which is a complete non-sense. If you're in Switzerland, you pay the Swiss price, thats it. There are some gimmicks with VPNs that you can potentially still do, but these apart from being not fully legal are dying as an option.

Netflix is the best CHF 14 I spend every month. If you use servers located in various parts of the globe to log in you can access different series and different films available in the region the server is located at. I don't have TV so I really enjoy my Netflix.

My son has an account in Italy and I just log on as a user to that.
Works perfectly here and in Spain when we go on summer holidays

Oh, are there still any VPN forwarding services that work for Netflix? Which ones? The ones I used before stopped working after Netflix cracked down on VPNs...

Re: Costs of Netflix in CH vs other countries...

I cancelled my membership couple of months back as the official offering for Switzerland is really a joke compared to the other countries.

I got myself a chrome-cast and now can watch almost everything via streaming through it.

Re: Costs of Netflix in CH vs other countries...

OK then, price went up a little this week (on https://www.netflix.com/browse you will see the 3 options are 11.90/month for one screen SD; 15.90 2 simultaneous screens HD; and 19.90 - 4 simultaneous screens UHD per month for)

So prices up a few francs on the mid and top tier plans at least.

.... but as far as I can tell, and I think for high users this is still good value, despite being higher than other countries ( remember minimum wage in CH, Sweden Denmark etc is FAR higher than the USA ... and my guess the OP's Netflix price chart may have rough correlation with that and purchasing price parity)

Question, Is the selection in CH still much smaller than the larger markets? if so, why and can we influence it?

Sadly Smartflix went the way of all flesh. But I am still happily paying US$11.99 per month for the UHD package.
My Netflix account works in the UK too - with the UK selection, not Swiss. I guess if one can register in the US or through a proxy, then you can pay a lower than Swiss sub...

It's not about a few bucks a month, it's about the principle. I'm with Trev on this one.
We're definitely above the EF "poverty line" but it makes me cringe when I hear this refrain all the time. I used to be like that though so I don't want to be very harsh. But. People question some companies pricing policies and it doesn't mean we're all stingy and what not.
Few bucks from here add to some more few bucks from there and when you draw the line you can't believe yourself how insanely high a price one pays to live here, and to be belittled sometimes, at that. That being said, at least Netflix is money well spent as far as I'm concerned.

Re: Costs of Netflix in CH vs other countries...

I had Netflix UK and still subscribe to it so my kids can watch it back in the UK. For CH got fed up permanently trying to reconfigure a VPN router to outfox the latest changes so subscribe myself to Netflix CH as well.

Got an email saying 'House of Cards season 5 now on netflix' at the end of May.... this was however from my UK subscription and still in October no sign of it yet on Netflix.CH!! You can now buy it on DVD..... since this is a Netflix original why is CH at the back of the queue for release when it is front of the queue on price?

I don’t see why your UK subscription won’t work here. Mine is a US one and works both here and the UK without problem, but uses the local Netflix range of the country viewed in without VPN...

I just assumed if two people looking at it back in the UK I shouldn't be using it over here, but good point will check how many users are entitled for the subscription I have so might be able to ditch the CH one, thanks.
