I'm aware of the rules, but tell me the last time companies let 15, 20% of staff go at the same time (financial crisis aside), rather than casually terminating them one by one. Small companies very easily get away with paying exactly zero, large companies occassionally have to pay up for some of their staff anyway, but that's largely because they have more mechanisms and bodies to intervene and are subject to closer scrutiny and observation. It's safe to assume that the team secretary next door will never see a cent no matter what and just be terminated "regularly" without redundancy even if a massive reorganization is going on.

Aside from that, larger companies make up a tiny proportion of all employers here - and subsequently, very very very few people will ever "enjoy" a redundancy package, despite proably being terminated a few times over the course of their lives. Believe me, the garage next door isn't paying his mechanics a redundancy package if he has to let 3 out of 10 of them go....

it's definitely not a contract from hell. the guy basically got paid for doing nothing and has a couple of nice anecdotes now. many people would dream of such a job.
And he was basically a temp.

Nope, but it was well written and had an awful lot of truth in there that could be transferred to Swiss employment
Except the mountain bit - all these types of jobs are in Altstetten...
Only the UBS ones. The CS ones are in the lower floors of Uetlibergstrasse, which I don't think will see far. But: There are financial services companies in Pfaeffikon SZ and Zug as well... with IT guys looking at mountains.

Lower floors? IT guys are all over the Uetlihof location, and a bunch in Oerlikon too, with some at other locations around the city. Admittedly, they're still most likely to have a view of the base of the Uetliberg or the Zürichberg rather than any real mountains...

And given the speed of reorgs, just give it a month or two for it to all change. Twice.

As my English mates call even the Hirzel a mountain, it could have been anywhere.

Come on guys, do you actually believe this story? I'd be astonished if it were true. There's every chance that the writer had experienced bits of these things, or had friends who had, or perhaps he simply has a good imagination, but there are too many conveniently good anecdotes for it all to have happened to someone in that space of time.

But the clincher is that it's quite well written. For an IT contractor, too well written. Just possibly, it was totally rewritten by a staff writer, or a freelancer hired to turn promising tales into something with more viral potential. As I'm sure you're aware, many of these tales are fabricated click-bait, created so that web users will read them and and distribute them to their pals, or post them on other forums aimed at the right profile/target audience, with "OMG, you must read this" sort of title, in the hope of attracting business to the host site.

Oh wait....
Lol, I forgot, IT contractor are all geeks with no writting skills, and no talents/

You'd be amazed of the skills numerous people have.

I don't deny the existence of click bait, just that your theory is just... a theory, without any supporting fact.

I'm afraid I'm not allowed photographic equipment in my workplace (or at least not allowed to use it!) so you'll have to take my word for it!

I think that the height might be confusing you.
Clearly you are on the highest management level on your infrequent visits.

Haha, some of us IT drones are on the top floor too. Someone has to be there to tell the important people how to turn things off and on again.

Oh, you cynics Trade Floors require IT (well Business/IT I suppose) people too!

I can't see the YouTube video at work, but I'll assume it was totally complimentary

Living nearby, I'd also give Corbets a +1 on the people working in CS Towers being able to see mountains, there's actually a great Alp view if you are facing towards the city/lake (not that you can see the city or lake, just Alps!).
