EF community knit project #6. Throw to keep Vlh22 warm of an evening.

Since project #5 is well on the way to being completed we are now moving on to project #6.(and #7 but we will just concentrate on this one for now)
This time we will be making a blanket for Vlh22 who as I'm sure you know moved back to the UK last year and for various reasons has been having a bit of a tough time.

We will be making 20x20 cm squares again using cheerful colours and unless anyone objects or has an alternative suggestion I propose to make a 140x180 cm throw.

RufusB has kindly volunteered to sew this one up so all contributions should be sent to her.
September 11th would seem to be a significant date, do you think we could have it finished by then? Or might it be a bit of a tall order?

Expect I could have ~10 squares winging their way to RufusB by the end of August....

If someone is going to deliver on a trip to UK (I could but not until November)... then I've got a basket that needs to join the parcel (left when moving stuff to the UK sadly).

A 180x140 throw would only require 63 squares. Do you think that is big enough? It doesn't seem very much but maybe it's just because the current one is such a huge project.

The squares will be mailed to RufusB in the U.K. and assembled there so no delivery possible I'm afraid.

This one is not a secret so yes there will.
There will be photos on the other thread soon so you just need to be a little bit patient.

Probably a few photos, but we can't give away too much of the surprise.

Might be a tall order for me. I am making good progress on the cross-stitch for Patsy but it's huge and detailed. Not sure I can get that and another 20 x 20 done in 4 weeks (allowing time for posting to Rufus and getting stitched together). But I'll do my best!

To put you lot to shame: I made the first square yesterday. Eat your hearts out

I'll commit to 6 or so but, as usual, open to make more.

I'm an easy woman.

Don't want to put too much pressure on you. I have an idea of the theme for this one unless you've already thought of something.

Based on the promised squares from here and 'the other place' I think we're already on track for the 63 squares required for this one.

My brain hasn't even contemplated project #6 yet - feel free to email or PM any suggestions you have, including patterns and colors.

Re: EF community knit project #6. Throw to keep Vlh22 warm of an evening.

Hiya

I am delighted to be sewing up but I have to be honest that 11 Sept may be a tight deadline for me... I'm starting full time teaching again from the 4th and need to spend the week before planning/sorting (and rocking/ fretting because it's been a while).

I will obviously do my very best but I want to manage expectations a bit. Really sorry to be a party pooper. I don't want to promise and then bail. I will absolutely get it done for as close to that date as possible.

Did we decide on a colour scheme? I've been in a beer tent for a significant part of the afternoon...

Is ok. Brain kicked in. Machine washable DK?

Re: EF community knit project #6. Throw to keep Vlh22 warm of an evening.

Rufus B is right (again); thinking about it the eleventh is rather tight given my other commitments, and I'm pretty sure some of us could do with a couple of weeks off to rest the aching digits.

And it does seem a bit mean to produce and present another blanket before we've given Patsy hers!
Who says she's not peeked at 'her' thread for at least two weeks.... hasn't she been good?!

I don't think the idea is to get this one done first; rather to get it in the pipeline since the other is well on its way.

Patsy's blanket is essentially done in terms of square production so I started this thread in case people already wanted to get started. ( as indeed Miss Marple and neddy have)

The original idea was to give Patsy hers in early September so it would have been finished and handed over before this one.

Re: EF community knit project #6. Throw to keep Vlh22 warm of an evening.

I discussed "my Blankie" with Anjela last night!! please don't make it too big!!

240 x 240 is huge and half of it will be hanging on the floor!! Also a bit worried about washing it. We just have normal sized communal washers, the drying etc. The thought of drycleaning makes me feel faint!!!

Shise, i'm sounding selfish!! Any left over squares could be added to VH22's?!

I think you'd mentioned giving it to her on her birthday at some point a while ago but it's not until late September, so I was slightly concern about it!

I'm still labouriously sewing in the ends for Patsy's squares... absolutely worst part.
If you're coming down to Genf this week can I be cheeky and palm them off on you then?, and we can try to work out a good hand-over day at the same time!

It was a suggestion but I didn't know exactly when her birthday was and actually though it was earlier in the month.

No problem handing them over, it would be silly to post them when we'll be seeing each other anyway. Just as long as I don't have to sew the ends in as I've got enough of those of my own.

I will make the blanket a reasonable size when I've got all the squares together. Don't worry the spares won't go to waste as I already have plans for them.

Chill...we have cunning plans The communal brain cell got exercised and realised size really does matter...and too big is not brilliant. Definitely no dry cleaning needed - BelgianMum (in charge of s'phistication and design, poor lamb) instructed machine washable only.
