I put mine out in the garden to dry on Sundays and bank holidays and nobody has complained yet. I've been doing it for nearly 7 years so I'm guessing nobody cares.

Same here - the only times I won't put it out is when there is a Church service, funeral or wedding - out of courtesy and respect, as the Church is right in front of the line. Anyhow, nobody would want my Bridget Jones style knickers on their wedding photos, hey.

Calvinist Geneva had a slightly annoying habit of being quick at burning witches and other "dissidents" at the stake...might have been a few centuries ago, but I'm not taking any risk!

https://sheilamaid.com/ More seriously, we fitted two of these: one on the balcony, I pull it right up and voilą, it's out of sight! The other one is in the washroom, no fighting about space for hanging stuff to dry. All dried in half a day.

Re: Hanging Out Washing to dry ??

I hang my laundry on the balcony and nobody's complained so far. Well the three and bushes nicely conceal the view so it could be part of the deal. I often spread my wet sports apparel after tennis on the chairs outside and it was also winked at. Moved already three times and never heard any complaints filed against.

Just make sure all your towels and underpants/kickers have a Swiss flag on.

You'll have no problems hanging 'em out then.

Gorgeous sunny day- duvets and toppers all out on window sills- no flags. Will go and give them a shake and turn over in 1 hour when I put all the fresh sheets and pillow cases out to dry in garden.

...One thing i still don't understand is people hanging their duvet out of the window.. What's the point of this? This is very common practice around my village. I mean if it stinks, wash it?!?

It's to air it.. and while there is no duvet on the bed, you are airing the mattress too. Fresh air, pure and simple.. sunshine is even better as it is a natural disinfectant. That's why cats and dog beds are often left out in the sunshine.
Yes, except the buildings in our area all look pretty filthy thanks to soot from the wood burning stoves. Some folks use the clothes drying racks on the balcony or in the garden, but no one throws their duvet over the window sill here. Also for me - allergies. I don't need more pollens in my bed, thanks. I either throw the duvet over the couch in the living room with the windows open, or use the drying room downstairs.

I don't really understand why one couldn't put laundry out on a Sunday, it isn't a noisy activity?
The Lord doesn't approve of others seeing your knickers on His day. Or something like that. When I was a child we'd hang out the washing, but all the underbits had to be hung first in the middle lines and then the socially acceptable clothing on the outer lines to hide the inner stuff.

Matching pegs and all uniformly erect, then? Works for me...
