Boys hair length for high school?

My son is about to head off to Zurich for a long term exchange, he is 16 and has shoulder length hair. His high school in Sydney, a prestigious institution takes a liberal approach to hair length etc... which is great. I am wondering if Swiss attitudes to such matters are likely to be as relaxed?

Re: Boys hair length for high school?

The fashion here is short and stylish. Very few long hairs in Zürich.

Yes he can have long hair, but he also might have a harder time to blend in.

16yr olds with long hair are more a rare sight here then in a whole bunch of other countries.

Not in Geneva. Hair bears everywhere.

Yes they are all conformists here. He does not have to blend in. He should be as he is.

Presumably you're not in Zurich during the morning before school or in the afternoon when they're on the way home then?

Better send him to Romandie then, long haired teens are everywhere here, all into alternative music (yay!) and many still into skate boarding, joints (oops) and other such teenagey things...

Re: Boys hair length for high school?

Hair length and school uniforms are really where continental Europe has it right in that they really don't care how you turn up to school. And the added advantage is that your Facebook doesn't get polluted with kids in school uniform standing in front of the front door pics around this time of year.

Absolutely, and he can blend in with long hair, it also depends on how we wears it and perhaps even with what cloths it is combined.

And if he's in luck he's the only one with long proper taken care of hair since it will give him advantage with a bunch of the girls

(And yes, I've had long hair way past my shoulders for the last 30 years, so I know what i'm talking about)

And once he feels he needs to chop it off, there's still locksoflove.org. They got a lot of my long hair donations.

Re: Boys hair length for high school?

Seems to me that for young people the issue is not whether the hair is short, shaved off, long, straight or curly, down to here, down to there... but the grooming. Same goes for shaving or growing a beard or sporting a 3-day look. Just keep it clean, trimmed, if long then brushed. Some young men tie their clean long hair up in a pony-tail or even a bun. Very few unkempt, dirty, scruffy young folk round here.
