Where to buy Lego

Just that. Where can I buy Legos as cheaply as possible? We have a somewhat developed collection, so ideally we need a place with a wide range of sets. The sets I recently tried to buy would not ship from amazon.com or .de and one pays quite a premium in CH.

Re: Where to buy Lego

galaxus.ch

Is it really such a big price difference in CH vs. others when it comes to LEGO ? Here's a random item on galaxus vs. amazon.de:

https://www.amazon.de/LEGO-Technic-4...keywords=42065
--> 65 EUR (~74 CHF) without shipping

https://www.galaxus.ch/en/s5/product...5-lego-6011274
--> 75 CHF with next day shipping.

Re: Where to buy Lego

If you just want a load of Lego to build stuff with, then you can get it by the kilo on auction sites like Ricardo.

Internet lore says to put used Lego through the washing machine in one of those net washing bags... but I've never tried it myself.

Second this. I have a ton of Legos because of that. Certainly over 100kg and an Army of Minifigures.

It works or simply a pillow case with a zipper. But be advised to sort out first windows, transparent tiles and such. Not more than 40°C and be carfull with ancient Lego as it may bend or brake,

The most interesting thing is to sort out all non Lego stuff. Which is easy to do by sound alone. ZOu just here it when there is one single non Lego piece.

Re: Where to buy Lego

My husband orders them from here https://shop.lego.com/de-CH/.

As "cheap as possible" is not always best.

When you wash them, do as advised from others. It works.

But never, ever let them dry in the sun. Legos get brittle and sometimes warped: they can't stand sunshine anyway. I lately worked at a Kindergarten where the teacher had done just that. I had to sort out many.

And if you by chance get a batch of sundried ones, you will not be happy, not at all, even if they were cheap.

Re: Where to buy Lego

You should also be aware that "cheap Lego" is relative. If you buy their own home-grown themes such as Lego City, it works out much cheaper by the kilo than, say, a movie-themed set. The Marvel comics range or Star Wars or the Ghostbusters kits, for example, are eye-wateringly expensive wherever you buy them.

If it's worth the total € difference - open a postbox address in Germany (e.g. LAS Burg across the Basel border), order a couple of boxes from amazon.de, and commute one time to pick them up.
Calculate in the price for commuting + fee per package, and see if it pays off for you.

Lego is one of the things that are relatively (to the UK) cheap, in as much as I think they are the exchange rate difference rather than the cost of living difference.

You can also get non-lego branded bricks which are cheaper.

Re: Where to buy Lego

Plenty of Lego on Ricardo, Tutti, Anibis or at your local second-hand shops...

If you are interested in some 'vintage' lego I have some sets that I am prepared to sell...they are complete and from the late 70's and early 80's... currently located in Adliswil, Zürich. If you want to come and take a look, send me a PM.

If you want to save some money and are just looking to build up a general set.
Try visiting a Brocki, we have managed to build up a great set for a tenth of the full price.

Don't forget you have to take out the German VAT and add the Swiss one to the Amazon purchase. Shipping is free.

If go through checkout, the totals are

Order Summary
Items: EUR 46,20
Postage & Packing: EUR 0,00
Import Fees Deposit: EUR 4,00
Order Total: EUR 50,20

or ~57 CHF.
I guess the price item dropped in the meantime, as I see EUR 54.98 on amazon.de. You can use camelcamelcamel.com to track prices and wait until it comes down (you get a notification).

You won't have to pay anything else - it's being sent through AmazonGlobal, so Amazon takes care of clearing it through customs (that's the "Import Fees Deposit" line).

If it ends up costing more, Amazon pays it and not you. If it ends up costing less, you get a refund on the difference.

It's definitely not next-day delivery though

Re: Where to buy Lego

A big bunch of sets are much cheaper when bricklinked, tho it takes a bit more effort.

Also a great place for if you just want a bunch of specific blocks or are in need of certain things to make an existing set complete again. I absolutely love my account on it.

In the meanwhile just join local facebook groups, keep an eye on Ricardo and such and respond with the speed of light when a great offer comes by, I got once over 60KG with over 100 sets (of which half starwars including collector editions) for 350,- chf, no minifigures included anymore but still an amazing sale.

If OP (or anybody else) just wants to build and is not concerned about Lego or not, I'd recommend the later Lepin sets on aliexpress, even tho not Lego a lot of Afol's find their building quality good, and they are only a fraction of the price of Lego, and the Chinese government subsidies most of (if not all) the shipping costs.

And as sad before he/she can perfectly buy used complete sets on bricklink. (An account there is mandatory for Afol's, we soon order the blocks we need for a Wall storage thing to place in fresh mail, keys, wallet, pens and all such things.)

If you want to build a nice set of big objects and not plan on selling them again it's an hobby that easily costs thousands a year.

Oh and before I forget, there's a Lego club who each year organise a trip to a huge Lego store in Germany for Vat free shopping in Germany and a nice day out.
