Dog-friendly swimming in Lake Zurich?

My husband and I have really enjoyed some of the local swimming in the Waendenswil area, but we would like to find a place where our dog can swim too! Any ideas?

Thanks a lot!!!

Re: Dog-friendly swimming in Lake Zurich?

The problem with taking your dog in to the lakes is that the Bad's don't allow dogs in, so you have to find your own spot to get into the water...this is a bit easier around the Greifensee and even easier around the Pfäffika see than it is around the build up Zurisee.

If you want to know specific spots let me know.

Additionally you have cachet value associated with a visit to the Oberland.

Re: Dog-friendly swimming in Lake Zurich?

I have seen loads of people swimming with their dogs down towards Zurichhorn, on a nice day you'll find plenty of other people swimming with their dogs. I will be one of them in a couple of weeks when I have been back to the UK to bring mine over

Re: Dog-friendly swimming in Lake Zurich?

Dogs are usually banned from swimming - or even entering - any area officially designated as a 'Badi' (Swimming area).

If stretch of public lakefront is not a swimming area, nor a fishing area , nor a Naturschutzgebiet (conservation) area, nor signed 'no dogs/ dogs on-lead', it is generally OK for the dog to swim. Those spots are few and far between on the Zürichsee, however.

We used to take the mutts to the Uetikon harbor (right side of the Zürichsee) - there is a bit of open land on the other side of the boat slips where people swim (but it's not an official Badi). No one minded well behaved dogs, as long as the owner swam with the dog.

I haven't found a suitable place on the left side of the Zürichsee, so we take the dogs to the Sihlsee instead. Stay away from the Badis, but keep walking along the lakefront - there are a few areas where the dog can take a dip.

Re: Dog-friendly swimming in Lake Zurich?

you are almost next to a perfect place in Wadenswil!
drive down to Richterswil , park at the station ,cross under the lines and walk 200m towards the badi. Just there by the floating harbour is an area perfect for dog swimming. was there Sunday with my 2 and they can jump off the rocks. Also you are right next to the badi so you can get a beer/sandwich in their new dog friendly section of the restaurant/cafe area!!!

At Bern, at Aare River I see all the time dogs swimming.
And it's crazy with such strong water current and the little animals still swim calm calm

PlantHead, I'd love to know the specific spots you're talking about, as I'm still finding my way around Zurich and not familiar with any hidden gems/good swimming spots.
I'm not PMing you so that anyone else who wants can use the info that you may provide.
Thanks a bunch~

Re: Dog-friendly swimming in Lake Zurich?

Pfäffiker See: take S3 from HB/Stadelhofen direction Wetzikon, get off at Pfäffikon, walk towards town center (pass underneath the railway tracks) and continue on to the lake (5 min.), it's all marked on the yellow hiking signposts.

If you feel like a walk afterwards, just follow the lake direction Wetzikon, towards the end, follow the little creek (Kemptner Bach), also signposted, to Kempten Bahnhof (it would have been the last stop on the S3 towards Wetzikon). Takes about 45 minutes.

Re: Dog-friendly swimming in Lake Zurich?

I just heard that you can let your dogs swim at Au on the southern end of Halbinsel. Haven't tried it myself, but I'll check it out soon.

Nothing like slurping down some 'dog rinse' when swimming to really make it perfect.

Thanks for that...

Birds and fish do all sorts of "interesting" things in the lakes and you're worried about a dog swimming in them?

Uh huh, children pee in the lake too. Whats your point?

OP, there are two areas down here where I live down here in Küsnacht that seems to be ok with dogs swimming. It was packed over the weekend and dogs and humans alike were jumping off a little pier into the lake, swimming for hours. A friend of mine has also brought her lab down here and we never had complaints when the dog was in and out of the water fetching balls.

Just make sure your dog doesnt go in front of someone and shake off the excess water though!

Re: Dog-friendly swimming in Lake Zurich?

In fact, the only time my dog comes OUT of the water is to go to the bathroom or eat.

And for the OP, there are lots of places on the Limmat where a dog can swim. But you need to go downriver a bit.
